Mad Max: Fury Road Goes Black and White

Director George Miller has been talking about a Mad Max: Fury Road black and white version since its theatrical release and he says it is the version of the film he prefers and was hoping it would score some sort of release in the future.  Amazon Germany suggests that such a release is coming soon and is listed as the 'Mad Max: High Octane Collection' which has all four films, an new documentary, and the "Black and Chrome" version of Fury Road.  Hopefully us stateside will get such a release soon.

New Release Tuesdays

In a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy.  The little people in the house somehow missed this flick at the theater so we gotta get this one in soon.

During an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya, a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos.  It’s always nice to see Michael Bay get away from Transformers movies because he can make really good movies like Pain and Gain.  I think I am more interested to see how Jim from The Office does in an action flick.  

Josh Brolin plays a Hollywood fixer in the 1950s works to keep the studio's stars in line and out of trouble. This is classic Coen Brothers comedy at their best as these guys show they can do just about any kind of movie.  The only disappointment I had with this flick was I noticed Dolph Lundgren is credited as the Submarine Commander and he has no lines and you really do not even get to see him.  He must break someone for that mistake.

There is no explaining needed here for the best Trek movie and one of the best sci fi movies period.  This is the first time this director’s cut has been released on blu to help celebrate 50 years of Star Trek.  The debate that always comes up with this movie is Ricardo Montalban really that big or is that a prosthetic chest?

Seattle cop Lon McQ investigates the murder of his best friend and the corruption within the police department.  The Duke passed on Dirty Harry a few years earlier and this was his attempt to get into cop movies.  It is a pretty good action flick but The Duke looks a lot more comfortable on horseback then speeding around in a Trans Am.  This action flick features stunts by the late, great Hal Needham.

During the Vietnam War, Captain Willard is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local tribe.  This is one of the best war movies ever.  This is a re-release with both versions of the movie and the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A filmmaker’s Apocalypse which is why I am picking this up because it was only available on the special edition blu ray previously.  

A father and son go on the run, pursued by the government and a cult drawn to the child's special powers.  A pretty cool sci-fi drama that is directed by Jeff Nichols who is turning out some impressive work so far as I really liked his previous movies Take Shelter and Mud.  

A blackmailer threatens to sabotage roller-coasters at various American amusement parks if he isn't paid a huge ransom.  This is a good looking 70s thriller.

Continuing his "legendary adventures of awesomeness", Po must face two hugely epic, but different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to his home.  This was my birthday movie at the Alamo this year and I got a kick out of this animated flick.

An insane general triggers a path to nuclear holocaust that a war room full of politicians and generals frantically try to stop.  This is a great, classic comedy that is getting the Criterion job so this may be well worth the upgrade.

Actors and extras reminisce about their time on the set of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) and how making the film affected their lives.  This looks like a good documentary that should show a good perspective on filming Star Wars and how this cast and crew did not have clue on just how big this little sci-fi flick was going to be.

With Kevin Costner narrating, lead a cast of baseball legends and scientists who explore the magic within the 396 milliseconds it takes a fastball to reach home plate, and decipher who threw the fastest pitch ever. I am a baseball geek so this looks good.

A woman wakes up next to a murdered man. Did she do it herself, and if not, is she in danger herself? A great thriller directed by the one of the best, the late Sidney Lumet.  This is from Warner Archive.
