New Release Tuesdays

Nosferatu- A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.  This is based on the 1922 silent film that was almost lost a long time ago and this is remake is awesome.  It is a bit of a slow burn but that’s what makes it so good.  Director Robert Eggers has not made a bad movie yet.

September 5- During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, an American sports broadcasting team must adapt to live coverage of the Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group.  This is a great little drama about the ABC sports group covering this event instead of the news group.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar- Dedicated schoolteacher Theresa Dunn spends her nights cruising bars, looking for males with whom she can engage in progressively dangerous extreme sexual encounters.  This is one of those movies that has not been available for years because of rights issues.  Luckily Vinegar Syndrome has been able to put out a limited run so go get one fast.

Dinner with Leatherface- Documentary about Gunnar Hansen, the actor who portrayed Leatherface in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974). Friends, colleagues, filmmakers, and fellow actors share personal stories and discuss the dichotomy between the maniacal chainsaw-wielding character he played on-screen and the very intelligent, creative, soft-spoken man he actually was in real life.

Aqua League- I cannot find anything on this so if you like Aquaman and the Justice League maybe this is for you.

New Release Tuesday

Juror #2- While serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, a family man finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict or free the wrong killer.  Clint Eastwood and Warner Brothers have been in the movie business for over fifty years.  Eastwood has made the studio Billion$ over the years.  I am not going list his name here but the most hated man in Hollywood decided after the failure of Eastwood’s last movie, Cry Macho, was a financial failure and that Clint was done at the WB.  He was recorded on a call asking about Cry Macho and why it was made and to sum him up used the old line, “This is show business, not friend business.”  It appears Eastwood already had Juror #2 in pre-production and was able to get it made even with the strikes and he has crafted one of the best court room drama in years.  The WB bean counter originally had this movie tabbed as a Max release but put it out to show in approximately 32 theaters.  That’s it for this movie making legend.  Critics love the movie and the industry has noticed the way Eastwood is being treated by showering it with much acclaim.  Eastwood did not doing any publicity for the movie probably because WB would not foot the bill, so we do not know what his feelings are about this whole WB fiasco. Many have said this would be Eastwood’s last movie but the man himself has not confirmed it.  I doubt it is his last movie, just his last movie with Warner Brothers.  The studio line starts to the left for the next movie he makes.  The highest of Recommendations.

Wicked- Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Galinda, a popular girl, become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.  I passed on this at the theater to enjoy it at home.  I enjoyed the musical, so this seems to look enjoyable.

A Real Pain- Mismatched cousins reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother, but their old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.  Do you have that cousin that you hung out with as a kid and then reunite as adults and things are weird?  That’s this movie in a nutshell.  It is a great little drama and is worthy of its Oscar nom.

Werewolves- Two scientists try to stop a mutation that turns people into werewolves after being touched by a super-moon the year before.  The Purge as a werewolf horror movie?  Sign me up!

Space Boobs in Space- A glittery signal from the most ridiculous corners of the galaxy.  It’s not just boobs is space.  It’s space boobs in space.
