New Release Tuesdays

Looney Tunes Volume 1- If you like the classic WB tunes then go get this because this or old DVDs are the only way you can watch these since HBO, Max, or whatever it is called removed them.  This is selling so well that Volume 2 is already in the works.

Jaws- When a massive killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Long Island, it's up to the local police chief, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down.  This gem just turned 50 last week so this is a great way to celebrate it.

Lethal Weapon- Two newly paired cops who are complete opposites must put aside their differences in order to catch a gang of drug smugglers.  Sweet, a Christmas movie in almost July.  Like the recent Eastwood 4ks, I am glad the WB is putting out some more classics.  This is still one of the best buddy movies ever.  I expect the other 3 moves to follow soon.  Come on WB!  Give us a part 5 before Mel and Danny do get too old for this sh*t.  Highly recommended.

Murder, She Wrote- Remember the show your grandparents watched?  Well this apparently set a record last week as the largest blu ray release with all of its umpteen hundred episodes and 4 movies on here.  Yawn.

Dark City- A man struggles with memories of his past, which include a wife he cannot remember and a nightmarish world no one else ever seems to wake up from.  This is one of those movies I have been meaning to give another watch.  I did not get it or enjoy it much when it came out so I am hoping maybe I have grown up a bit to enjoy this.  Who and I kidding, I will watch Sleepaway Camp 3 again before I get around to this sci-fi flick.

The Monkey- When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father's old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.  Oz Perkins is horror royalty (son of Anhtony Perkins) and he has put out some good stuff recently.  Cannot wait to give this a spin.

Sorcerer- Four unfortunate men from different parts of the globe agree to risk their lives transporting gallons of nitroglycerin across dangerous Latin American jungle.  Thank you Criterion!  A good movie that got lost back in 1977 because it came out a week before this little movie called Star Wars.  This William Friedkin flick has really received a lot of love over the past decade and deservedly so.  There is not a lot of dialogue in this but Friedkin let the visuals take over and man, what a ride.  Literally.  The highest of recommendations.  And what do you know, the Barnes and Noble Criterion sale starts tomorrow!

New Release Tuesdays Past

Clint Eastwood 4K Steelbooks- WB chose to stick to Eastwood last year by making his best movie in a decade a limited release and then buried it on streaming.  But this year they show him some love by releasing some of his classics on 4K and steelbooks.  There is no need to go over these classics, I have bought them all multiple times in multiple formats and let me say:  these are all gorgeous!  It is the best they have ever looked and sounded, and they are loaded to the gills with special features.  If you are an Eastwood fan order these now and enjoy.  The word is he is working with WB on some other releases, so fingers crossed!  The highest of recommendations.

Tombstone- A successful lawman's plans to retire anonymously in Tombstone, Arizona, are disrupted by the kind of outlaws he was famous for eliminating.  There is another movie on the making of this movie that has not been made yet but hopefully it will get made one day soon.  With all the behind-the-scenes drama this movie had no business of being so kick-ass and an instant Western classic right when it was released.  The fantastic casts carries this move to great heights and it is very fitting that we get this after Val Kilmer left us as this may have been his best role as Doc Holiday.  Again, the highest of recommendations.

Working Man- Levon Cade left his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he's asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism.  I love my some Statham!  I missed this at the theater but I found this at Wallyworld last week so I did not have to rely on Mr. Amazon to bring me this.  I am sure this is action packed and is co-written by one Sly Stallone so looking forward to spinning this soon.

Andora- A young stripper from Brooklyn meets and impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairy tale is threatened as his parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.  It won a bunch of Oscars, not that that means anything anymore, but I do like Sean Baker’s work and the Criterion sale is coming up soon.

Captain America: Brave New World- Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident and must discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan.  Wow, what a mediocre movie.  It’s not bad but it’s not good either.  I expected more here hoping Marvel was getting their stuff together but you have to wait for Thunderbolts* for that.

Mickey 17- During a human expedition to colonize space, Mickey 17, a so-called "expendable" employee, is sent to explore an ice planet.  An interesting looking flick until the trailer turned me off of it.  Will check this out on Max sometime.

Drop Zone- A tough cop teams up with a professional skydiver to capture a renegade computer hacker on the run from the law.  Snipes made some good action flicks back in the 90s before he went to jail and I remember this one fondly.  Will have to reacquaint myself with this one sometime soon.
