New Release Tuesday
Brad Pitt and Sean Penn star in director Terrence Malick's latest. The story centers around a family with three boys in the 1950s. One of the best reviewed movies of the year and knowing Malick it probably has gorgeous scenery shot in Austin.
Looks like a mundane, worthless summer comedy but with a nice cast so it may just get a viewing from me.
Sons of Anarchy season 4 marches on I have started Archer season 1 for something new to watch.
The Rangers are up 2-0 on the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS and are off to Detroit. Two more wins and we're back in the series!

Top 10: Horror Sequels
I love horror movies and if I find a good one I will check out all the sequels if any. These below are the tops from horror franchises.
- Psycho II- I remember this is one of the first movies we rented on VHS to watch on our new VCR. Horror was very popular in the late seventies/ early eighties and Universal figured they might as well bring back to the life the best horror movie of all time and let Norman Bates out of the institution. Great job by the late Anthony Perkins, he just stepped right back into the role without missing a beat.
- Halloween II- Halloween was the most profitable independent movie of its time so a sequel was inevitable. Director Carpenter stepped aside produced, wrote, and did the music for this flick. This movie picks up right where the first one left as Michael continues to terrorize Haddonfield.
- The Devil's Rejects- Rob Zombie made a descent movie in House of 1000 Corpses but really stepped it up in this sequel of the continuing adventures of the Firefly family.
- Evil Dead 2- Technically this is a remake of Evil Dead that was made on a dime so this is basically the same movie with alot more bucks behind it so the story was expanded abit. Ash never looked so cool with a chainsaw.
- Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors- Part 2 of this franchise was awful so this entry was a make or break of Freddy being in people's nightmares. Original cast member Heather Langenkamp returned to lead some teenagers against Freddy in their dreams.
- Friday the 13th Part 2- A nice follow up to the original as a grown up Jason makes his debut and takes over the killing for Mommy against the horrible Camp Blood counselors.
- Blade II- The first Blade was really good as comic book movies were not quite going yet as a fine character was introduced. Director Guillermo del Toro took over this sequel and stepped it up and and created some fantastic vampire and non vampire-villains for Blade to line up against. Also glad to see Kris Kristofferson return in this sequel.
- Bride of Frankenstein- Our monster and Dr. Frankenstein are revealed to still be alive in this sequel. The good doctor's wife is kidnapped and he is forced to create a mate for his first creation.
- Underworld 2- The war between Vampires and Werewolves continues as we go back into the past to learn some more about this rivalry and some of the bloodlines of it.
- Jason X- Friday the 13th was on hiatus for eight years so Jason just coming back to the big screen was a big deal. Jason continues killing and this time takes it to outer space in the future. Good times.
New Release Tuesday
I have enjoyed the first and the last movies of this franchise and adding the Rock to this entry has peaked my interest yet again. Cool cars, fast action, and two bald guys fighting each other should lead to some nice mindless viewing for awhile. This movie was the leading cash grabber until the big summer movies came out and the reviews for this were positive.
Director Wes Craven made a comeback with Scream and it really jump started horror in its day when it was getting a bit stale. Scream 2 was good enough and part 3 was awful so that put this franchise to bed for awhile. All involved here (Craven, Campbell, The Cox-Arquettes, and the Weinsteins) have been on a career downer lately so what better way to jump start things by making a sequel. Reviews were descent on this and it did barely break even at the box office so there will have to be a alot of DVD and blu ray sales to justify another sequel.
Just wrapped up Dexter Season 3 and what a great show. Dex wrapped up another season by nabbing the killer and getting married. This should make things interesting for season 4. Sons of Anarchy keeps on riding and Clay keeps getting deeper into trouble.
The Rangers beat the Rays to advance to the ALDS against the Tigers and I like the Rangers chances because we have a deeper bullpen. Let's hope Nelson Cruz gets his timing back and solidifies this offense.
