New Release Tuesday

It’s a good week for new stuff and some old catalog releases!

This is only for die hard Sly fans.  Not the best of movies and I will blame that on director Renny Harlin and the horrible cgi effects they used for this Indy car racing drama.  It has its moments and it’s about time we have Sly and Burt Reynolds in a movie together finally.

Man, what could have been.  Bruce Lee was the second baddest man on the planet next to Chuck Norris and Enter the Dragon is a martial arts masterpiece.   Love the cover on this with the broken mirror.
I am intrigued by this new telling of a tale.  Look s action packed and lots of fun!

Great precursor to Every Which But Loose as director Walter Hill wrote and directed this great depression era street boxing movie.  Charles Bronson is awesome and is a monster in this at the age of 54.  It is really nice to see Chuck Bronson teamed up with James Coburn again as he plays Chuck’s manager.  This is carried at Screen Archives and they have only issues 3,000 copies so get yours now.

Overlooked Eastwood western directed by the great John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape).  Eastwood is Joe Kidd and is he hired by the great Robert Duvall to hunt down a Mexican fugitive causing trouble.  Or is he?  Nice little movie and has some great, funny sequences with Clint.  This is a European release so it pricey but it is region free.  Universal seems to be dragging their feet on their part of the Eastwood collection so I may look into this.

This has never been released on DVD so the best ninja movie ever finally comes out on blu at that!  This is a great flick and I really look forward to catching up with this 80s classic.  It come from Shout Factory so it will look and sound great and will have plenty of extras.

I am up for another trip to OZ since I have been watching the original all my life.  The reviews on this are pretty mixed but I trust director Sam Raimi here and I look forward to checking this out.  The hard part of watching this is going to putting up with James Franco.

Let’s go see what the Rock is cooking!  I am back on board with Dwayne now that he is back doing action movies and has ditched the comedy stuff.  The Rock plays a snitch of a truck driver working for a drug cartel to try to get his son out of trouble.

Movie Poster Wednesday- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

New Release Tuesday

I remember catching this on cable about a decade ago and was blown away by it.  Robert Blake plays an Arizona motorcycle cop that works a murder case and gets promoted to detective and learns all about police corruption.  He works the big case and then just wants to return to the solace of his bike duty in the desert.  Great scenery here and this great 70s flick has a lot of soul to it.  Look for members of Chicago in this as they play some minor roles.

I was really looking forward to this until I saw the first trailers and man did they suck.  They have completely removed the man in the wrong place at the wrong time scenario and have made John McClane a super hero.  Jumping off of planes and out of buildings was not what this character was built on.  Any way the word is this is better than the last one so I will give it a spin tomorrow.

Director Peter Bogdanovich made this homage to the classic musical comedies of the 30s.  This was back when Burt was on the top of his game.

I loved getting up early to catch the Lone Ranger in the mornings. Those old black and white episodes were good times with my Lone Ranger and Tonto action figures.  This set is huge and pricey and it is time to cash in because Disney's Lone Ranger is a month away.

Mad Max: Fury Road is a year away but Warner Brothers wants to get you interested in Max Rockatansky now.  Mad Max is great,  The Road Warrior is one of the all time classics, and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome had its moments.  Great set, reccommended.
