New Release Tuesday
If you like Westerns then you will love AMC’s Hell on
Wheels. I called season 4 of this great show Escape from the Mormons but our
hero Cullen Bohannan is far too good of a family man for such an escape. After a brief stint of living with the
Mormons with his new wife and baby Cullen decides it’s time to get back to Hell
on Wheels to get the railroad back on track for the race to California. Cullen
has a hard time getting his old job back from railroad dictator Durant but
after some hard grunt work and some good ideas he earns his way back. During this time he is noticing his Mormon
wife is an outsider among the railroad town and decides she needs to go home
with her people. This is only a sampling
of season 4 as there are many more story lines and characters that pass through
town. Highly recommended.
This is a story of macho oil well firefighters and their
wives. The Duke would try something different
every once in a while to mix in with all of his Westerns and I remember this
one fondly. This also stars the
beautiful Katharine Ross and features stunts by the late, great Hal Needham.
I do not keep up with the NBA anymore and I especially did not follow the Knicks.
Two adults and a juvenile burglar break into a house occupied by a brother and sister and their stolen children and can't escape. This horror flick was directed by Wes Craven and is a really good time. Scream Factory brings is this to us so it will look and sound great and will be filled with extra features galore.
A widower returns to his hometown to search for answers to
his wife's murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a murdered
ventriloquist. This is from the director
and writer from the original Saw and is a great, spooky story. Remember the old ventriloquist horror shows
and movies from the 70s? Those dolls and
clowns still creep me out.

New Release Tuesday
The sequel to Divergent in which Beatrice Prior must
confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance
which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her
side. I got to admit Divergent was
pretty weak so this better blow my socks off or I may not check out the other
forthcoming sequels. Hunger Games this
is not.
A guy's regrets over moving in with his girlfriend are
compounded when she dies and comes back as a zombie. I am not gonna bother looking this up but
wasn’t there another movie like this recently?
Anyway I don’t care because this one is directed by the great Joe Dante
(Gremlins, The Howling) who will certainly give this little horror comedy a lot
of heart. Sadly I do not see a blu ray
release of this title.
A hapless store clerk must foil criminals to save the life
of the man who, miniaturized in a secret experiment, was accidentally injected
into him. This 80s flick is also from
the great Joe Dante and think Fantastic Voyage here with a lot more fun mixed
in it. Martin Short plays the hero in
this with Dennis Quaid playing the miniaturized pilot inside of him. Yes, inside of him. This is a real fun flick and Warner Archive
brings it to us on blu ray.
The world's greatest killing machine is three times as
deadly when a mutated, three-headed, great white shark threatens a cruise ship.
As the shark eats its way from one end of the ship to the next, the passengers
fight the deadly predator using anything they can find. Normally I would call this scenario preposterous
but if sharks can fly around in tornadoes this is way more plausible. This stars
Hollywood’s hardest working man, Machete himself, Danny Trejo.
