Passengers- A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony
planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep
chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early. I missed this at the theater and this seems
to have gotten lost in the Rogue One wave but it seems to have scored decent
reviews and has an interesting sci-fi premise.
Fences- A working-class African-American father tries
to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his
life. This is based off a Broadway play
that started back in the 80s and I remember Eddie Murphy was wanting to adapt
it back in the day to be a dramatic role for him but that never got off the
ground. This has got a solid cast and I
like the other couple of movie Denzel has directed.
Drive-In Massacre- Two police detectives try to catch a
serial killer who is stalking a rural California drive-in theater, randomly
killing people with a sword. This is a
great little cheap horror movie made back in the 70s and is a lot fun to
watch. It clocks in at 74 minutes so it
is quick and be sure to watch as the credits roll.
Collateral Beauty- Retreating from life after a
tragedy, a man questions the universe by writing to Love, Time and Death.
Receiving unexpected answers, he begins to see how these things interlock and
how even loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty. Smells like failed Oscar bait, beware.
