New Release Last Tuesday

Valerian- A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.  I usually like Luc Busson’s stuff but this came and went without much fanfare and seemed to have gotten lost in the Summer movie madness.  It does seem to have quite a following already so I will spin this soon.

Hitman’s Bodyguard- The world's top bodyguard gets a new client, a hit man who must testify at the International Criminal Court. They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial on time.  There is not much appealing about this, I did like the Bodyguard poser they put out before its release.

Jabberwocky- A young peasant, with no interest in adventure or fortune, is mistaken as the kingdom's only hope when a horrible monster threatens the countryside. It is not a Monty Python movie but it is directed by the Python great Terry Gilliam. Did you know Gilliam shared the crew from another little movie filming at the same called Star Wars while making this near London?  Already picked this up at the Criterion sale.

Birth of the Dragon- Set against the backdrop of 1960s San Francisco, BIRTH OF THE DRAGON is a modern take on the classic movies that Bruce Lee was known for. It takes its inspiration from the epic and still controversial showdown between an up-and-coming Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man - a battle that gave birth to a legend. Meh.
