New Release Tuesdays

It- A group of bullied kids band together when a shapeshifting monster, taking the appearance of a clown, begins hunting children. I have not see the original TV version since it aired on TV and the book always intimidated me with its 20,000 pages.  Everyone seemed to love this so it is collecting dust on the shelf now and waiting for a spin.

The Foreigner- A humble businessman with a buried past seeks justice when his daughter is killed in an act of terrorism. A cat-and-mouse conflict ensues with a government official, whose past may hold clues to the killers' identities. I watched Supercop recently for the first time in probably over a decade and remembered how much I love me some Jackie Chan.  Jackie plays the action more straight in this movie and it is from director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) who knows a thing or two about action movies and it also has a former Bond with Brosnan in it so this has the ingredients of a good flick.

Young Mr. Lincoln- A fictionalized account of the early life of the American president as a young lawyer facing his greatest court case.  This DVD has been on my wish-list for a long time so I am glad Criterion released it on blu finally.

Blade Runner 2049- A young blade runner's discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former blade runner Rick Deckard, who's been missing for thirty years.   Blade Runner is my second favorite sci-fi movie of all time.  I saw it as a kid but I did not get it or appreciate it when I was younger.  I think I was a senior in high school and saw it late one night on Friday night CBS late movies (Remember that?) and fell in love with it right there.  The original bombed upon release and became a cult classic over time so I never thought we would see a sequel because it is too risky for studios to make.  I guess Harrison Ford doing Han Solo one more time and Sir Ridley Scott getting involved as a producer was enough for the studio to pull the trigger on this, so it got made and it too bombed at the box office despite excellent reviews.  Scott has come out recently and said the long run time of 2 hours and 45 minutes may have hurt the movie’s box office performance and I agree.  It is what kept me away as I much prefer to watch anything over 2.5 hours at home.  I hope I love this as much as the original and I have heard to watch the first one before viewing this sequel so no problem there.

Happy Death Day- A college student must relive the day of her murder over and over again, in a loop that will end only when she discovers her killer's identity.  So, they have turned Groundhog Day into a horror movie and I am fine with that.  Hopefully someone will do Stripes next.

Matinee- A small-time film promoter releases a kitschy horror film during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  I am so glad to see Joe Dante’s other movies getting some love and nice upgrades to blu.

Yor- A warrior seeks his true origins in a seemingly prehistoric wasteland.  I do not think I ever saw this but I remember the movie poster for it, it is only $8 on Amazon, and its got the great Reb Brown (Uncommon Valor, Captain America) in it.  What’s not to like?

Snowman- Detective Harry Hole investigates the disappearance of a woman whose scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman. I have not read many good things about this and I think I would rather watch this anyway:
