THOR: Ragnarock- Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization, at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. This was a great time at the movies as director Taika Waititi knocked it out of the park withthis one. Highly recommended as this was one of the best movies out last year. Scored the steelbook at Best Buy.
The Dark Crystal- On another planet in the distant past, a Gelfling embarks on
a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal, and so restore order to
his world. I have never seen this and I
remember it being on HBO all the time but I was never interested then and I am
still not sure I am interested now.
The Strangers- A young couple staying in an isolated vacation home are
terrorized by three unknown assailants. This
is one of the best horror movies to come out in the last decade and why did it
take a decade for a follow up? This was
loved critically and more importantly financially so I am very glad we are
finally getting a sequel to this movie.
So get this from Scream Factory and then go catch the new one this
weekend.
Death Wish- Nice to see Bronson get a steelbook! A New York City architect becomes a one-man vigilante squad
after his wife is murdered by street punks in which he randomly goes out and
kills would-be muggers on the mean streets after dark. This is one of the great, gritty action
movies of the 70s where New York was a turd of a character itself before they
turned it into the Disney World it is today.
Charles Bronson was already a movie star with things like The Great
Escape and The Dirty Dozen but this made him a super star while he was
in his 50s. This is a tough movie and
not for the faint of heart so be advised.
I do want to check out the remake with Bruce Willis but I feel he is miscast
for the role as I expect the guy from Die Hard to shoot punks but I have read
they really try to make him an every man in the beginning of the movie and I
like director Eli Roth’s love for movies and his stuff a lot.
