Halloween- Laurie
Strode confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has
haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night
four decades ago. This was my most anticipated
movie of the year and it delivered. It
was a pleasure to watch this knowing that Jamie Lee Curtis, Nick Castle, and
John Carpenter joined by horror newcomers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride were
dedicated to getting this franchise off lift support by bringing back one of
horror’s icons and setting up a direct sequel to the original classic. It
payed off big time critically and financially. The movie is great
and one of the year’s best and the score by John Carpenter is fantastic. Highly recommended.
The Old Man
and the Gun- Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker and his audacious escape
from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that
confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Dallas ‘own David Lowery has
already had the pleasure of directing Robert Redford in a movie and may have
the distinction of directing the last movie Redford stars in but we will see. Redford was backtracking on that acting retirement
talk during press and festival tours but that may have been out of respect for
the movie because all the talk was about him, not the movie. Sadly I missed this at the theater but look
forward to spinning this real soon.
Saturday the
14th- A family moves into a house inhabited by scary creatures and a
number of close calls ensue. I remember this coming out as a kid but I do not
think I ever got to see it and the DVD has been out of print for a long time so
glad this coming out again.
Cannibals and Carpet Fitters- A group of carpet
fitters are sent on a job to an old Country house in the middle of nowhere.
However they soon discover it's a trap set up by the savage, cannibalistic
family. This is a UK horror comedy that
has caught my attention for some reason.
I will have to give this a look sometime.
