I am still fighting the battle from the Batcave and have been dealing with post Halloween depression so I have been watching some action movies lately with some dramas mixed in. I wish the last 10 movies watched to right here on the page still worked, I guess i should remove that. There has been a lot of good titles come out the past few weeks and it is nice to have a stack of movies sitting here by my desk. A few months ago there were not any new releases so it is nice to be getting back to almost normal. Here is what we have:
Pig- A truffle hunter who lives alone in the Oregonian wilderness must return to his past in Portland in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped. Nick Cage has been turning out some quality movies of late and this might be his best one yet. I was expecting this to be more like John Wick as a guy kicking ass looking for his pig but this is much more toned down and has some great performances in it.
Prisoners of the Ghostland- A notorious criminal must break an evil curse in order to rescue an abducted girl who has mysteriously disappeared. We have some more Nick here and I have not seen this one yet but have read is quite bizarre in a good way. Also stars the great Bill Moisley. I like the line at the bottom of this case. "The Wildest Movie I've Ever Made." Come on Mr. Amazon.
Don’t Breathe 2- The sequel is set in the years following the initial deadly home invasion, where Norman Nordstrom lives in quiet solace until his past sins catch up to him. This is a nice sequel and is quite a departure from the first movie as Norman is a good guy in this one, sort of. Stay thru the end credits on this one.
White Tail- Follows a broken family as they embark on a weekend hunting trip out in West Texas. The mother has recently died and the trio hope to get away from it all by being out in nature and hunting. Instead, they run into a bunch of trouble. Just picked this up on a whim from Wally World and it has the last Hellraiser’s Pinhead Paul Taylor in it.
The Suicide Squad- Supervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. I missed this at the theater so really excited to check this out because I love James Gunn’ work.
Jungle Cruise- Based on Disneyland's theme park ride where a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles but with a supernatural element. Oh The Rock is cooking some jungle adventure here. This is a fine movie to watch with the family but I am getting a bit tired of these from The Rock, he needs to mix in some rated R action. Remember The Tooth Fairy or The Game Plan? Don’t fall back in that trap DJ, please.
Steel Dawn- In a post-apocalyptic world, a warrior wandering through the desert comes upon a group of settlers who are being menaced by a murderous gang that is after the water they control. This was Patrick Swayze’s next movie after Dirty Dancing. I remember it but never saw it and I have been enjoying the other Vestron titles so will order this soon because I do not see it on stores anywhere.
Boardinghouse- A boarding house is reopened years after gruesome murders were committed there. Suddenly, the body count begins once more! This played at Dismember the Alamo this year and was a pleasure to watch with a sold-out theater. If not for the audience I was with this movie probably sucks if you are just sitting around watching it by yourself. This was shot on vhs and then blown up to be on the big screen. Made for a fun Halloween night.
Hell on Shelf- I love Christmas Horror and it is about time someone made a movie about this guy. We do this guy around our house so looking forward to this one.
Skull: The Mask- The feature film is an action-packed horror flick depicting a supernatural serial killer based on pre-Colombian mythology in a hunt for revenge in the metropolis of São Paulo. I picked this up a few weeks ago after reading good things about it a long time ago so glad it is finally out.
Walker- No, no, no!
