It has been a bit slow on the new release front lately. But do not worry, May is going to be great for blu rays! Rumor has it Best Buy will no longer be carrying movies come September and I believe it. The last time I was in there the movie shelves were pretty barren. Here is some the good stuff that has come out the last couple of weeks:
Scream- 25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past. I love the first movie, it was the shot in the arm the horror industry needed in the 90s. The other 2, meh. I only saw the fourth one when it came out and I like it a lot. This one is quite cleaver as it is a requel and pays many homages to the original. Down right shot to shot in some instances. I enjoyed this one and I read the next one already has a date listed.
Young Rock- A look at the formative years of superstar Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as he grows up through life. Do you like the Rock’s cooking? Did you like wrestling in the 80s? Then you should be watching this show. The best episodes are when The Rock is 8 years old and Dad is wrestling with Macho Man, Andre the Giant, The Sheik, and many others just to name a few. They are great supporting characters that were a part of The Rock’s life growing up. Check it out, season 2 is on now.
Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge- A man loses his home and suffers life-threatening burns from a fire deliberately set by commercial real estate developers vying for his property. One year later, a shopping mall opens on the land, and a series of murders begins. I remember seeing the add for this in the paper being and confused because it said Eric’s Revenge. I thought it was a sequel, how did I miss Phantom of the Mall Part 1? I didn’t. This has been out of print for a long time so I am gonna get this soon to finally check it out.
Spider-Man: No Way Home- With Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. This was fantastic and I do not care that all the behind-the-scenes rumors came true. It was still great and I cannot wait to see it again. Interested to see where they take the series now with that ending. Bring it!
The Abominable Dr. Phibes- Doctor, scientist, organist, and biblical scholar Anton Phibes seeks revenge on the nine doctors he considers responsible for the death of his wife. I enjoy old Vincent Price movies and these were two of the best to me. Kino Lorber has been putting out good stuff out.
Chucky- After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets. The cool thing about all the Chucky movies and this series is that creator Don Mancini has been involved in them all. I have enjoyed all the movies except the third one and this series is a continuation so I have got this already and look forward to it. One question though, Chucky is like three feet tall. Why not just kick him? I have just always wondered that.
Moonfall- A mysterious force knocks the moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. I saw the trailer for this in the theater and I thought it looked awful. I am not sure I will get around to this disaster flick.
