Pancake Saturday

On Saturdays I usually serve up pancakes for breakfast and then reflect on what happened that week.  Think of it like my scatter shooting of the week.  Here is what I have in the barrel this week:

*Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the Oscars.  Again.  I stopped watching years ago but with the “slap” last year that has turned off even more viewers because it was also a slap in the face to those at home watching and then the network brings this bore back?  No thanks, I will probably be watching some movies that night.  Go Everything Everywhere All at Once!

*If you thought the NFL Pro-Bowl sucked before, did you watch them play flag football?  Pathetic.  The MLB All-Star game is the only “All Star’ sports event worth watching anymore.

*Aaron Rodgers is again holing the Green Bay Packers hostage again this off season.  I was hoping he would get lost in his all-dark retreat but apparently, he found his way out of the hole.  At least Brady retired, I think.

*Creed 3 comes out next month.  No Stallone, no watch.

*Baseball spring training started this week.  This makes me happy.  The Texas Rangers started the spring with at least six quality starters this year compared to the two they had last year.  Don’t go making World Series plans just yet.  They have a lot of work to do to get past the Astros and Mariners.

*Car drivers in my family is increasing so I had to buy a used car recently.  After some shopping I found one I was interested in and went to work on it.  Once it got down to crunch time with the sales guy I needed some more off, and he offered they are a no haggle car lot.  What?!  Where is the fun in that?  The car sales guy is the one guy you can hustle, or make miserable, and they say that now.  Anyway after holding out for two days I got my deal.

New Release Tuesday

I have not done one of these in a while.  There is still usually some descent stuff that comes out weekly, it's that you have to get almost all of it from Mr. Amazon now as Wal Mart and Target have empty shelves in the movie section or what's left of it.  I do not buy as much as I use to, I am going for quality now over quantity seeing as I am running out of room for movies.  Anyway, here is a few worthy titles to consider:

The Hunter- Bounty hunter Ralph "Papa" Thorson is receiving death threats from a criminal he helped put away. This while his girlfriend is about to give birth, an event he isn't looking forward to.  This was Steve McQueen’s last movie and this is the first time this has been released on blu ray.  It’s been awhile since I have seen this; it’s not bad but McQueen is very sad looking in this action flick.

Werewolf of Washington- A reporter who has had an affair with the daughter of the U.S. President is sent to Hungary. There he is bitten by a werewolf, and then gets transferred back to Washington, where he gets a job as press assistant to the President. Then bodies start turning up in D.C.  I have always heard of this and now I am intrigued.

Now see, this is my kind if deal.  Four descent action movies for $12.  And it does not take up much shelf space either.

Dragonslayer- A young wizarding apprentice is sent to kill a dragon which has been devouring girls from a nearby kingdom.  I remember seeing this in the theater.  I wonder if the special effects still hold up on this flick?  I will find out soon enough.

Ice Ice Baby 2023!

Well, we are frozen in again this winter!  This is three years in a row we have had an ice or snowstorm that cripples the area.  I am very fortunate that I get to work from home so I do not have to worry about getting out in this mess.  We are all stocked up here and I hope you are too.  Stay warm and remember to drip the faucets!

John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 at The Alamo!

John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 will be showing at The Alamo Drafthouse next week.  I have never been able to catch this on the big screen, so this is going to be a treat and it is a new 4K scan.  See you there!
