New Release Last Tuesday
The former World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa serves as
a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former
rival Apollo Creed. This was one of 2015’s
best movies and it is a shame it was not nominated for more awards at that joke
of an Oscar show. What’s even more of a
shame is that the movie’s own studio did not push Sly Stallone for his Oscar
nomination as the guy had to pay for his own “For Your Consideration’ Oscar
advertising and was knocked out again at the show. Too bad, the academy could have really scored
some points with the public but instead stuck with their political agenda and
that is why I am done with that show.
This movie comes with the highest of recommendations.
When Brainiac zaps Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green
Lantern, Batman and Flash have to go back in time to save them. These Lego movies are really funny so I am
looking forward to checking this out.
After the battle on Endor, the Rebels are retold the story
of Episode I and Episode II through the vantage point of C-3PO. See above.
These have been airing on Disney and if you are a Star Wars fan you
really need to check these out, they are hilarious.
Canada's most famous hosers, Bob and Doug McKenzie, get jobs
at the Elsinore Brewery, only to learn that something is rotten with the state
of it. An all-time classic comedy that
is best with a few brews, some friends, and a dog just so you can sit there and
call him Hosehead. Great cover art! Now take off, eh.
Young co-eds are being cut up by a chainsaw killer on a
college campus. The killer is attempting to put together a human jigsaw puzzle made
from body parts. If you like 80s horror
and like horror movies with chainsaws then classic is for you. This is a great release from Grindhouse
Releasing as it has an awesome transfer, is stuffed with many extra features,
includes the soundtrack on a separate CD, and comes with a nifty little movie
tie in too. Highly recommended and it is
worth the price.

New Release Tuesday
In
a world where dinosaurs and humans live side-by-side, an Apatosaurus named Arlo
makes an unlikely human friend. I have read this is considered Pixar's first miss at the box office. Seems like a lot of this last year's November and December releases got pushed to the back burner because of the return of Star Wars.
I still need to watch season one of this show that I hear is really great and I am on board with just about anything FX puts out, you know.
The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive
scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic
Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. This is a good looking drama that I still need to watch to see if can be considered for my tops of 2015.
A disillusioned college graduate finds himself torn between
his older lover and her daughter. I might have to upgrade to this Criterion upgrade for this classic.
Six friends dig up a corpse to use in a satanic ritual to
make the dead rise from their graves. Now this only caught my attention because of the director of this the late, great Bob Clark. He was one one of the few directors that worked successfully in two different genres, horror and comedy.
Eastwood is back in this Western about a young civil war veteran that is forced on a desperate journey
to save his kidnapped wife. Dammit!!! Fooled again, that's the wrong Eastwood! Anyway I will check out Scott's first Western and its got the great Walter Goggins form Justified and The Hateful Eight so it should be pretty good.
In their club days, Twisted Sister were the Grand Funk of
Glam and the NY Dolls of Metal, channeling savage energy and wild humor into a
sort of blue collar performance art, as they fought to escape the velvet noose
of suburban bar-band super stardom. Dee and the boys are on a final world wide tour to close up shop so this should be cool to check out.
