Discovery of Old Flicks in '12

I see plenty of new movies over the year but I also make a point to go back and see some older movies that I missed for one reason or another.  Here are some of my favorites of last year:

The great Robert Duvall and Joe Don Baker are bad ass in this 70s crime revenge flick.

Director Francis Ford Coppola really out did himself in 1974 as this and The Godfather 2 were both nominated for best picture.  Gene Hackman stars as a surveillance expert who gets caught up in a murder plot and has to to get himself out of a jam.

Rod Taylor and Jim Brown are mercenaries on a mission in the Congo to recover $25 million in diamonds.  Great heist flick right up there with Kelly's Heroes.

This is an 80s action-comedy cop movie that was made in the 70s.  This was a great flick way ahead of its time and I have never seen James Caan in such a funny role.  Very politically incorrect and features some fantastic stunt work too.

Guillermo Del Toros's first movie about a grandfather that becomes a vampire.  His granddaughter realizes what is happening to him and takes care and assists him through his ordeal.  Stars Del Toro regular Ron Pearlman.

A very nice horror comedy from director Eli Roth.  He has been spending more time in front of the camera lately and I would like to see some like this.

The semi true story of killer Ed Gein that Psycho, Silence of the Lambs and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre were based on. Pretty creepy but the reporter that shows up on occasion to narrate the story gets old quick.

The late Director Bob Clark (A Christmas Story, Porky's) helped innovate the first person view of the killer in this creepy Canadian horror classic that many a movie maker has borrowed from over the years.

I had a great time watching this classic about an anthropologist that brings a frozen creature on a train and the dang thing thaws out and then it really hits the fan then!  Stars horror legends Christoper Lee and Peter Cushing.

Based on a true story in Texarkana, TX in the late 40s.  I remember seeing this as a kid but I do not recall it at all.  This has been missing in action on DVD but luckily Turner Classic Movies showed it last year as part of their Cult Classic series and I was able to finally see it.  A very creepy movie with a killer that has been copied by another classic series.  This comes out on blu ray in May so looking forward to picking this up to watch again.
