New Release Tuesday

FX’s Archer changed formats on us a bit last season as the group (The show is not using that name anymore) went from Secret Government Agency to selling drugs from their busts for a living.  It made for another really good season and I look forward to watching a few more of these before the season six premiere, which I missed last night.

I got to admit I have not seen much of Richard Linklater’s work besides Dazed and Confused, The Newton Boys, and Bernie.  The guy has an impressive body of work and I still have School of Rock and the Before trilogy on my to watch list for some time in the near future. It looks like Criterion is doing the Before trilogy this year.  And Linklater is a Texas Guy, so what’s not to like!  This is the story of the life of a young man, Mason, from age 5 to age 18.  Want to know the cool part of this movie?  They actually filmed it over a 12 year period so you get to see this kid actually grow up.  A very interesting looking title and this is getting a lot of awards buzz.

A biography about the hardest working man in show business, James Brown.  It will be interesting to see if this is a plush piece or if it explores the woman beating side of the singer.  Other than that fact I do not know much about James Brown other than his appearance in Rocky IV and Eddie Murphy did a hilarious spoof of him on SNL one time.  Go YouTube SNL Hot Tub right now.

A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.  This is one of those movies that flew under the radar and has scored good reviews and is in that category of one of the best movies you missed last year.

A Nazi hunter in Paraguay discovers a sinister and bizarre plot to rekindle the Third Reich.  This is a great thriller about a secret group of Nazis that are using cloning to bring back Hitler.  Highly recommended!
