New Release Tuesday

Victor Crowley- Ten years after the events of the original movie, Victor Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and proceeds to kill once more.  I caught this on director Adam Green’s tour and it is fantastic.  If you like any of the other Hatchet movies then you will really like this one.  It has just the right balance of horror, comedy, and of course gallons of blood.  Be sure to sit through the end credits.  Highly recommended.  Go here to buy an autographed blu ray and support independent horror- https://ariescope-pictures.myshopify.com/

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight- In an alternative Victorian Age Gotham City, Batman begins his war on crime while he investigates a new series of murders by Jack the Ripper.  Wow, what a great idea to place Batman back in the late 1800s chasing Jack the Ripper during the Whitechapel Murders.  I hope this is as good as it sounds.

Only the Brave- Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a group of elite firefighters who risk everything to protect a town from a historic wildfire. This movie got lost when it was released and that is too bad because it seems to be regarded as a good movie. And it has got the Dude in it so it is a must watch.

Sinbad of the Seven Seas- Sinbad and his shipmates aid a young prince, who must battle an evil wizard to gain the hand of a beautiful princess.  I remember the Hercules movies, but I do not remember this one at all.

Day of the Dead: Bloodline- A small group of military personnel and survivalists dwell in an underground bunker as they seek to find a cure in a world overrun by zombies.  Do we need another remake of this Romero classic?  Reviews on this are pretty brutal but the Bub zombie looks kind of cool atleast.

New Release Tuesday

Class of 1999- Robot teachers have been secretly placed in the schools where the students have run riot. The teachers do a good job of controlling the unruly youngsters, until they go too far and some students get suspicious.  The Vestron Video series has some new titles out.  I loved their releases of Parents and Chopping Mall.  I have not seen this but I remember the VHS covers vividly.

Gothic- The Shelleys visit Lord Byron and compete to write a horror story. Ditto from above.

Penitentiary- A hitchhiker named Martel Gordone gets in a fight with two bikers over a prostitute, and one of the bikers is killed. Gordone is arrested and sent to prison, where he joins the prison's boxing team in an effort to secure an early parole and to establish his dominance over the prison's toughest gang.  I have never seen this either but did score a DVD copy on the HPB clearance rack awhile back.  This and a Rocky movie would make a great double feature.

Eastwood is Back as The Mule

Clint Eastwood might be returning to acting, his first role since 2012’s Trouble with the Curve, with the drug running thriller The Mule for Warner Brothers.

The 87 year-old filmmaker is considering starring in, producing and directing the project based on a New York Times Magazine story about an award-winning horticulturist and decorated WWII veteran who became a drug courier for Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.

The man was arrested in Michigan by the DEA carrying $3 million worth of cocaine in his truck, and was sentenced to just three years in prison after his defence lawyer claimed Sharp suffered from dementia which sent him down the wrong path.

Nick Schenk, writer of Gran Torino, has written the script, which Dave Holstein  has re-written. The film is expected to be Eastwood’s next following The 15:17 to Paris which opens next week.

Having Eastwood back in front of the camera is a good thing and knowing how fast he works this will probably be ready by the end of the year.
