New Release Tuesdays

Alien: Covenant- The crew of a colony ship, bound for a remote planet, discover an uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination, and must attempt a harrowing escape.  I was pretty disappointed by the last Alien movie and the audience seems to be divided by this one as well.  Sir Ridley Scott boasted of plans of more Alien movies but this one has not recouped its budget back yet so I am not sure if Mr. Scott will get to make any more.  Fox, please let Neil Blomkamp do his Alien movie.  Soon.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly- A bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery.  This is one of the greatest Westerns of all time and I have bought every version of it available at one time or another.  This does mark the first time the theatrical version has been released on blu ray.  Enthusiasts were hoping the video presentation of too much yellow in the earlier releases were going to be corrected in this new Kino release but they just dialed down the colors a bit so there is still something off on this version as well.  Time to get a new laser disc player.

Missing in Action- Colonel Braddock launches a mission deep into the jungles of Vietnam to find the POW camp that he escaped from and free the Americans still held captive there.  Looks like MGM has started licensing some more Cannon titles to Shout Factory and that is a good thing.  This is one Chuck’s best movies as he and director Joseph Zito made a couple of great action flicks with this and Invasion USA.

Night Moves- Los Angeles private detective Harry Moseby is hired by a client to find her runaway teenage daughter and he stumbles upon a case of murder and artifact smuggling.  I saw this for the first time last year as it reaffirms that the 70s was absolutely the best decade of movies and music and it proves that Gene Hackman is awesome.  They just do not make ‘em like this anymore. 

Hickok- Legendary lawman and gunslinger, Wild Bill Hickok, is tasked with taming the wildest cow-town in the west. While delivering his own brand of frontier justice, the infamous gunfighter's reputation as the fastest draw in the west is put to the test.  This is the most descent looking Western that has come out in a while so I will give it a spin.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2: The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill's true parentage. You had me at Kurt Russell.  

Ash vs the Evil Dead Season 2:  It was so great to see Bruce Campbell back as Ash and a TV series was the right way to bring this character back.  This show features all the goofiness and gore from the movies since Sam Raimi is involved and it is a really good time.

The Walking Dead Season 7: This show really needed a shot in the arm and the Jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan provided that this season.  The season premiere starts out with quite a bang(s) from Lucille then we get to meet some new characters, see what some old ones are up to, see Darryl listen to some bad music, and see our heroes get broken down but build themselves back up just in time for the finale.  Oh, and there are zombies on the show.  It looks to be another interesting season coming up.
