Cult of Chucky- Chucky returns to terrorize his human victim, Nica.
Meanwhile, the killer doll has some scores to settle with his old enemies, with
the help of his former wife. The last
movie, Curse of Chucky was absolutely brilliant as writer and director Don
Mancini shows you do not have to keep rebooting your series but just change it
up a bit and bring back your money maker.
I have high hopes for this follow-up and word is it is good.
A Ghost Story- In this singular
exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, a recently
deceased, white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to try to reconnect
with his bereft wife. I recently
discovered that the director of this (David Lowery) is a local DFW guy that did
the Pete’s Dragon remake last year and has several other films under his
belt. He made this little film two weeks
after he was done shooting Pete’s Dragon and recently finished a movie with
Robert Redford. As of right now he is
listed as the director of the live Peter Pan movie. I have ordered all his past staff and will
dig in soon but this title looks like it will fit in with the horror movies
this month even though I do not think it is technically a horror movie. Look for more on this guy soon.
976-Evil- People
who dial 976-EVIL receive supernatural powers and turn into satanic
killers. I have never seen this but I
remember the box and I see it is directed by Freddy himself, Robert Englund. Remember when you could call 976 numbers back
in the day? Are those still around with
the Interwebs being somewhat popular?
Night of the
Living Dead- There is panic throughout the nation as the dead suddenly come
back to life. The film follows a group of characters who barricade themselves
in an old farmhouse in an attempt to remain safe from these flesh-eating
monsters. It sucks to be a horror fan
here lately as we lost George A. Romero and Tobe Hooper. This is the classic movie that started it all
and any movie or show with Zombies since this owes it all to Mr. Romero. R.I.P. This is a public domain movie but I have not had
a blu ray copy so this is a much-welcomed release.
Jackals- Set
in the 1980s, an estranged family hires a cult deprogrammer to take back their
teenage son from a murderous cult, but find themselves under siege when the
cultists surround their cabin, demanding the boy back. This has an interesting premise and scary
masks are always a good sale.
Superman the
Movie: The Extended Cut- This is the comic book movie of all comic book
movies. This is from Warner Archive and
contains the TV version I saw when I was a kid that has almost 40 minutes added
back in and this cut has not been seen in decades. This is very cool of Warner Brothers and I
cannot wait to give this a spin.
