Night of the
Living Dead- There is panic throughout the nation as the dead suddenly come
back to life. The film follows a group of characters who barricade themselves
in an old farmhouse in an attempt to remain safe from these bloodthirsty, flesh-eating
monsters. I am so glad that Criterion finally got to this title for the movie’s
50th anniversary. This is the
zombie movie that started it all and laid the foundation for anything that has
come out ever since. This was directed
by the late, great George A. Romero and he did oversee this 4K restoration for
Criterion before he passed last summer so I cannot wait to watch this and dissect
the special features on this blu. The
highest of recommendations.
Silence of the Lambs- A young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an
incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial
killer, a madman who skins his victims. Many
people consider this a horror movie, but I consider it more of a suspense
thriller but either way it is awesome.
This movie cleaned up at the Oscars that year and rightfully so as the
two leads and the direction are superb. This is a new 4K restoration from
Criterion so this will be fun to dig into also.
Also, the highest of recommendations, Clarice. BTW, I
am watching Hannibal on Amazon prime right now and it is fantastic.
Drag Me to Hell- A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds
herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer
to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking
point. This is a throwback to the old
Sam Raimi and it is quite a thrill ride.
This is from Scream Factory and I read all the new extras they have
added makes this upgrade worth the purchase.
Hellraiser: Judgement- Detectives Sean and David Carter are on the case to find a
gruesome serial killer terrorizing the city. Joining forces with Detective
Christine Egerton, they dig deeper into a spiraling maze of horror that may not
be of this world. I have seen Hellraiser
1,3, and 4. I am not a huge fan of the franchise,
but I have been meaning to check the whole thing out along with the Saw movies to
see if my mind has changed. The new Pinhead
is a Dallas actor so I got this and will give it a spin soon just for that
reason.
Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III- A California couple and a
survivalist encounter Leatherface and his family. The movie was NC17 or unrated when it was
released into theaters in 1990 and I was bit too young to get in so I tried to
sneak in but that theater had a close watch on that entrance just because of
the rating so I had to wait for the VHS to continue the adventures of the
Sawyer gang. This was a reboot that
happened before that became common place for the movies nowadays and it was not
well received upon its release. It did
not even crack the top ten during its opening weekend I guess because people were
still trying to figure out what Chainsaw 2 was all about. Anyway, I have always liked this sequel even
if it was not filmed in Texas. Thanks
Warner Archive!
Daddy’s Home 2- Having finally gotten used to each other's existence, Brad
and Dusty must now deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays. No
thanks, I would rather have a Stepbrothers sequel.
Mom and Dad- A teenage girl and her little brother must survive a wild 24
hours during which a mass hysteria of unknown origins causes parents to turn
violently on their own kids. This is from
½ of the Crank directing duo and its got crazy Nick Cage in it so what is not
to like here?
