My Bloody Valentine- A
decades-old folk tale surrounding a deranged murderer killing those who
celebrate Valentine's Day turns out to be true to legend when a group defies
the killer's order and people start turning up dead. I never really discovered how good this movie
was until a new DVD of it came out when the remake of the same name came out in
2009. It was butchered by the ratings
board upon its release but the director discovered some the original elements to
add back into the film but they were not very good looking on that DVD but Scream
Factory finally got the rights to this and knocks it out of the park with this
release. This release comes with the theatrical
cut on one disc and the director’s cut on the other. Go right the director’s cut, those added
scenes look gorgeous. Highly recommended.
Ford vs Ferrari- American car
designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles battle corporate interference and
the laws of physics to build a revolutionary race car for Ford in order to
defeat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. A good looking drama from the director of
Copland and Logan.
Swamp Thing- Abby Arcane returns
home to Marais, Louisiana to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, only to
discover the dark, terrifying mysteries of the swamp. DC has their own streaming service that with
new original shows including this one.
It looked really interesting until during production the episode was cut
from 13 to 10 and then before the show even debuted it was cancelled. So why would I waste my time? Apparently, there was some paperwork snafu
with the tax breaks the show was to receive so it went way over budget and died
before arrival. I may still pony up and
subscribe to DC one of these days but what a waste of potential.
Transylvania 6-500- Two skeptical
reporters are sent to Transylvania to find the Frankenstein monster - or get
fired. They are laughed at there but something suspicious is going on - maybe
there are monsters, vampires, mummies and werewolves. I remember this being in heavy rotation on
HBO back in the day.
