If you are into collecting media it is a cool read. Now onto the new releases:
Color Out of Space- A secluded farm is struck by a strange meteorite which has apocalyptic consequences for the family living there and possibly the world. Before you see this go to Amazon Prime and watch Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau. Director Richard Stanley was off to a great start especially with Hardware and got the gig to do Dr. Moreau’s Island so watch the doc so see what a clusterf that movie turned out to be. Now after all these years he is back and has made the best H.P. Lovecraft movie out there now, sorry Re-Animator.
JoJo Rabbit- A young boy in Hitler's army finds out his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. Seems like director Taika Waititi can do no wrong as I have absolutely loved everything he has put out so far. This is a great whimsical comedy about a young German boy in the Hitler youth group that has a pretend friend that is Adolf himself. This is one of my favs of the year, highly recommended.
Midway-
The story of the Battle of Midway, told by the leaders and the sailors who
fought it. This is a great war movie
that seemed to have gone under the radar and got lost during the holiday season
when it came out. Woody Harrelson seems
to be great in anything he does lately and anchors a good cast in this flick. If you like war movies give this a spin. I went with the Target steelbook.
Tex
Avery- This is a great collection of
old cartoons from Warner Archive. These
cartoons are hard to come by these days and you have to get lucky to catch them
on Boomerang or whatever network the kids watch cartoons on these days. Hopefully this is just the beginning so buy
this volume one so we get some more of these released.
Knives
Out- A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric,
combative family. I missed this one so
looking forward to catching this whodunit real soon.
Victory-
As allied P.O.W.s prepare for a soccer game against the German National Team to
be played in Nazi-occupied Paris, the French Resistance and British officers
are making plans for the team's escape. This
is a pretty good war flick that had Stallone working with a big-time director
in John Huston and was looking for some success outside of the Rocky franchise. This broke even at the box office and Stallone
would have to wait another year before he it hit big with First Blood and showed
everyone he can do more besides just Rocky movies.
Hot
Dog: The Movie- Harkin Banks heads to skiing championships in California. A
teen runaway goes along as he parties and competes with friends and foes. I am not sure how many times I caught this on
Skinamax back in the day. This movie was
one where teenage boys dropped everything to check this out. They do not make like this anymore.
