Expendables 2- Arnold

New Release Tuesday

One of the biggest and best action franchises finally makes its blu ray debut.  This set came out months ago in the UK but Mel Gibson continues to open his mouth and inserting his foot in it which is too bad.  The guy is a really good actor and director but has pretty buried his career.  I always figured a fifth Lethal Weapon would always be in the works as a comeback vehicle for him but it seems even Warner Brothers does not want much to do with Mel anymore.  The only Lethal Weapon talk going around lately is rebooting the franchise.  Anyway this set contains brand new masters on all four films but only has the theater cuts the ones director Richard Donner prefers.  I have been use to watching the studio extended cuts for the last twelve years with some nice bonus scenes so it will be hard readjusting to the old cuts.  Great action movies, especially part two so enjoy.  Highly recommended.  "I'm getting too old for this sh*t!"

I have been reading about this movie for years and with producer George Lucas throwing his weight and money around good things were expected.  The movie was pushed back repeatedly and finally debuted and did not perform well critically or financially.  I have always had an interest in the Tuskegee Airmen from my junior year in high school where we had a teacher that taught the story so I will be picking up a rental on this in the future.

The Rangers finally had to use the disabled list by placing fifth starter Neftali Feliz because of elbow discomfort.  He is expected to be shut down for six weeks or longer.  Spot starter Scooter Feldmen will step in the rotation and leave a big hole in the bullpen.  Let the Roy Oswalt rumors commence now.

Expendables 2- Chuck

My favorite flick of the year until the Avengers came out.  Liam Neeson leads a group Alaskan oil workers who are on their way home for for a break but then their plane crashes.  The crash site is in the middle of nowhere and the men quickly find out they are being hunted by wolves.  Luckily Mr. Neeson's job is protecting these men while they work in the elements as he kills wolves and has alot of knowledge about them.  Unfortunately he does not have his weapons so he has to come up with some crafty ways to defend the group of men.  This is a great action film with a little bit of everything as the situation this group of men are put in really breaks them down and makes them appreciate what they have or once had.  Highly Recommended.  BTW, stay through the end credits.

I have just about given up network TV.  Most of the shows are bad, networks do not want to offend anyone, and the days of letting an audience discover a show to let it nurture are over.  I am a big fan of the shows on FX and AMC right now.  These cable networks will at least commit to a whole season for a show to give it a chance to grow and let the audience give it some time to like it.  AMC's new western wants to be like Deadwood and that's great because that was one of the best shows on TV before it was dropped.  This is a show about an ex soldier out to avenge the death of his family and takes a job with the railroad that is expanding west to get closer to the killers he is after.  There are some nice little Outlaw Josey Wales elements here and they are some great side stories as well.  Give season 1 a spin because it has been renewed for a second season.

Avengers Poster for the Ladies

Expendables 2- Statham

The first two Underworld movies were not bad and had alot going for them as the battle of Vampires vs. Werewolves went on.  These are much better then the Twilight series.  Part three, Rise of the Lycans left a little to be desired without star Kate Beckinsale but she returns to this fourth entry and brings the franchise back to prominence.  All this and Kate always looks good in tight black leather.

Released at Valentines day.  That is all I know about this chick flick.

Last night we had the pleasure of viewing baseball history as outfielder Josh Hamilton set a Ranger record and joined some elite baseball company by hitting four home runs.  That gets him on a pretty select list that do not even include names like Ruth, Mantle, or Aaron.  The Rangers go head to head against the Angels this weekend and hopefully they bring it against CJ Wilson.

Chuck was Here

Ah, one of my favorite westerns and a Sydney Pollack classic.  Robert Redford stars a mountain man just trying to be on his own but gets caught up in a battle with the local Indians or Native Americans as we say today.  The scenery is the real star of the movie here.  "You know how to skin grizz boy?"

I don not know a thing about this flick but it has a girl with uzis and a heck of a cast so I will give it a spin.

The Rsngers lost to the Blue Jays tonight but are now 17-7 and I will take that any month.  The Rangers have two rookies that are both 4-0 (Yu and Robbie Ross) as Josh Hamilton and Adrain Beltre are nursing some injuries right now.  This is the beginning of a long road stretch so this should be a good test for the ball club.

I have been liking Marky Mark's work alot lately.  Ever since I saw him in a little movie called Traveler I thought this guy had a little something.  Mark plays a former smuggler that heads to Panama to collect millions in counterfeit money to help out the family.  I am guessing not all goes according to plan in this action thriller.

Halle Berry is back to fight sharks!  She has been holding out for just the right script.
