New Batman Trailer

It Started Filming this Past Monday

New Release Tuesday

Another slow Tuesday for releases this week.  There is no new big release this week but there is a Stallone gem form the late 90s that was desperately needing an upgrade from its bad DVD release.

Daylight-  Ah, disaster movies of the 90s.  Those were some good times. Twister, Armageddon, Hard Rain, Dante's Peak, and Daylight.  Stallone had this one good flick left in him before taking some time off and making his latest comeback with Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and the Expendables.  Sly plays Kit Latura who is thrown into action when an accident causes the tunnel between Manhattan and Jersey to partially collapse.  Sly, who used to be an emergency worker in New York is familiar with the tunnel and volunteers to go help the people stranded inside.  Amy Brenneman co-stars and helps Sly carry the movie.  Solid action flick by director Rob Cohen who was just getting his action movie directing feet wet and went on to do the Fast and the Furious and other flicks.

Only one more episode of Justified left after last night's episode.  It may be the best show on tv right now and recently won a Peabody to support that.

Tonight is last episode of the Office with Michael Scott in it.  It will be interesting to see what direction this show takes now.

The Rangers are still clinging to first place despite a rash of injuries lately so this season will certainly have its challenges.

Top 10: Chuck Norris Flicks

Everyone knows I love me some Chuck.  Six-time World Karate Champion, only man from the western hemisphere to earn an eighth degree black belt, and has his own set of facts.  Here is some of his best flicks:

  1. Invasion USA- A group of terrorists invade Miami to take over the US.  The government and local authorities have a hard time stopping them so who do they call?  That's right.  This is a great 80s action flick.
  2. Lone Wolf McQuade- JJ McQuade is a Texas Ranger who likes to work by himself in his "Lone Wolf" ways.  Bad guy David Carradine tries to take out this Texas Ranger so he can conquer El Paso and this leads to a climatic showdown between two white guys that know martial arts.  This sounds alot like one of my favorite TV shows.
  3. Missing in Action- Chuck plays Braddock, a Vietnam vet that gets called back in to duty to go rescue some POWS that are MIA.  Another action great and Chuck shows he can handle an M60 just as well as Sly and Arnold.
  4. Delta Force- Chuck and Lee Marvin, in his last pic, lead an all star cast about an elite Delta team that are sent to rescue hostages from an airplane hijacking.
  5. Code of Silence- A Dirty Harry rejected screenplay fell to Chuck and this is probably his most praised movie.  He plays a Chicago cop trying to stop a drug gang and rescue a girl from them.
  6. Silent Rage- Chuck plays a small town sheriff that has to protect his town form a killer resurrected by 3 doctors with an experimental drug.  This is almost a horror movie, very creepy.
  7. Return of the Dragon- Yeah, I know it is a Bruce Lee movie but Chuck is in it and helps create one of the best fight scenes ever caught on film.
  8. Forced Vengeance- Chuck is an ex military vet in Hong Kong running a family casino and has to stop it from being taken over by a rival company.
  9. Delta Force 2- Chuck returns as the leader of the Delta Force as they go to Colombia to take down a drug lord.
  10. Firewalker-Chuck's attempt at a little humor.  Stars with Oscar winner Louis Gossett Jr to go find lost treasure and run into many obstacles along the way.

New Release Tuesday

Last year's Best Picture of the year debuts on blu this week.  It is an interesting story and I applaud the studio for not releasing a PG13 friendly version that they thought about doing earlier this year.  Director Tom Hooper, who took home the Best Director prize also directed the excellent HBO miniseries John Adams, so this should be entertaining.  I searched Amazon quite thoroughly and could not find much more for my liking this week.  Take it for a spin.

R.I.P. to screenwriter Kevin Jarre.  You may not know his name but he did a few good films and got really screwed out of one of the best screenplays ever, Tombstone.  More on that to come...

New Release Tuesday

Unless you are a Harry Potter fan, which I'm not, then today is a rather weak release day.

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry/Race with the Devil Double pack- I love the 70s road movies and this were two of the best.  Peter Fonda stars in both and leads the way with great car stunts on the open road.  The late great Warren Oates is in the latter and I always appreciate his performances every time I see him.  He was a great one.

Disney has relased Cars and The Incredibles on blu today jut in time to get the Cars 2 promos going.

Gator 1976

Burt Reynolds was really at the top of his game in the 70s with hits like Deliverance, Shamus, White Lightning, and The Longest yard.  In 1976 it was time to deliver a sequel to White Lightning and bring whiskey runner Gator McKlusky back to the screen.  After a second stint in jail for illegal boos Gator is recruited by the government to bring down an old friend and a crime boss, Bama McCall, played by the late great Jerry Reed.  Gator infiltrates his organization and with the assistance of the beautiful Lauren Hutton brings it down.  A fantastic boat chases starts the movie off and is capped off with many more great stunts.  Burt took the reins as director for the first time in this film and besides some pacing issues in the middle of the movie he did an admirable job.  Sharky's Machine has always been my favorite Burt directed movie.

The great Hal Needham (Smokey and the Bandit) is listed as the second unit director and it makes you wonder if Smokey was brought to life during the making of this flick.

Universal, how about atleast a anamorphic widescreen release of this classic.  This DVD is a pretty weak release quality wise.

The Rangers are 9-1 after today's game.

New Release Tuesday

This week an old friend from the 80s makes a comeback and Ben Stiller delivers another stinker.

Tron:  In 1982 Disney tried their best to get a another sci fi flick off the ground since The Black Hole cratered upon release and Tron barely broke even at the box office.  As a kid I found it under whelming as a movie and enjoyed the arcade game much more.  But over the years it has gained some appreciation and now gets a proper release on blu.  This release was delayed until after the new sequel because the blu ray looked "to good" and showed alot of detail that is now kind of cheesy so Disney did not want to scare off any new Tron fans.

Tron Legacy:  Jeff Bridges returns to play Flynn so it must be good, right?  This performed admirably at the box offcie but I think Disney wants some strong home sales to be convinced to greenlight another sequel.  I am going to check this out this week So give it a spin and I will see you at Flynn's arcade.

Little Fockers- Biggest turd of the year, do not waste your time.

The Rangers are 5-0 baby!

That Wild and Crazy Guy

Apparently the multi-talented Steve Martin has really taken to Blue Grass and just released his second album recently.  I kinda have a soft spot for this music as I find it as great background noise when working.  Who knew all that banjo playing in his act in the 60s and 70s would payoff for him in the future.  This is a fantastic album with great banjo playing from the man himself as a Beatle and some Chicks drop by and sing for him.  The insert is quite entertaining itself as Steve has a little info on each song and how it came about.  Check out his site at: http://stevemartin.com/

The Rangers swept the Red Sox to start the young season 3-0.
