It was My Birthday the Other Day...

New Release Tuesdays

Yeah, work has been getting the best of me but here are some of the physical dics that have come out the last few weeks that may or may not be worthy of your attention.  Let's dive in...

Gemini Man- An over-the-hill hitman faces off against a younger clone of himself. This is one of those movies that has been in development hell for a long time.  Clint Eastwood was attached to this at one time long ago as the star.  Technology caught up to get this movie made now and I have no desire to see it.  Looks like Will went from chasing Oscars and went back to chasing money.

Maleficent: Mistress of EVIL- Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies, and dark new forces at play.  I saw the first one and do not remember a thing about it so I am going to pass on this one.

Brewsters Millions- A minor league baseball player has to spend thirty million dollars in thirty days, in order to inherit three hundred million dollars. However, he's not allowed to tell anyone about the deal.  Probably the last good Richard Pryor movie and it is directed by Walter Hill (The Warriors, 48 Hours) which is a very odd choice for Hill but a few years ago I heard on a podcast he accepted this gig to do something different but mainly for the money.

Beyond the Law- A former mobster turned businessman and a police detective must contend with a dirty ex-cop looking to bring the killer of his son to justice.  I have not see a new Steven Seagal movie in years and I always heard he was trying to do a sequel to Above the Law and I guess this is as close as he will ever get to it.

Zombieland: Double Tap- Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.  I just watched the original recently and it still holds up very well but I am wondering how this will be ten years later after many Walking Dead shows and other zombie movies.  Can this movie still be relevant?  I hope so, I cannot wait to see how Woody’s search for Twinkie’s is going.

House by The Cemetery- A New England home is terrorized by a series of murders, unbeknownst to the guests that a gruesome secret is hiding in the basement.  This is a good looking horror flick from Blue Underground who has been putting out some great releases lately.

Countdown- When a nurse downloads an app that claims to predict the moment a person will die, it tells her she only has three days to live. With the clock ticking and a figure haunting her, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out.  This is a very dull, generic looking new horror movie trying to capitalize on an app.  Oh, so modern and with the times.  Pass.

Semi-Tough- A three-way friendship between two free-spirited professional football players and the owner's daughter becomes compromised when two of them become romantically involved.  It is nice that we keep getting a steady diet of Burt Reynolds movies coming to blu ray.

High-Ballin- Two truck drivers fight off thugs who have been hired to drive them out of business.  I have never seen this but it’s Jerry Reed and trucks.  What is not to like here?

Edge of the Axe- An axe murderer terrorizes a small Northern California mountain community, while two young computer-obsessed adults attempt to solve the killings.  This is an 80s Spanish horror movie that was stuck on VHS forever and has finally made to it to the digital side.  I remember the poster well of this title, but I am not sure if I have seen it.  It looks interesting…

Terminator: Dark Fate- An augmented human and Sarah Connor must stop an advanced liquid Terminator, from hunting down a young girl, whose fate is critical to the human race.  This was finally the Terminator sequel we all wanted but unfortunately the last two movies scared audiences away and this bombed.  Hard.  It’s too bad, this was a great action flick and a good follow up to T2.  James Cameron and the other producers should have known not to have such a high budgeted film, this was setup for failure from the beginning.

Ballers: Season 5- The Rock ended the show at this season and this season turned drama more than comedy so it went out a little strange.
