Opening Day

Today is one of my favorite days as all is right with the world and 30 teams start with a clean slate and only a few really have a chance at a World Series Title.  Play Ball!

Clint Eastwood Week at Trailers from Hell

It's Clint Eastwood week over at Trailers from Hell.  Go visit them and see what guru Alan Spencer has to say about the last two adventures of Dirty Harry and Clint's best musical.  I can't believe I just typed that last part!  Go here and see how long Loretta has been serving Harry Callahan coffee: http://trailersfromhell.com/

Phantasm is Back!!!

It is confirmed and this is real.  This has been in development for over a decade but this horror sequel is in the can and best of all Reggie and the Tall Man are in it.  Go to Ain't It Cool to see the trailer:

Movie Poster Thursday- Hang 'Em High

New Release Tuesday

Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.  I am not a huge Dicaprio fan and seeing how so many lived it up in the 80s at the cost of others is a bit of a turn off to me.  But I do enjoy Marty Scorsese's' flicks  and I will give it a spin soon.

Marvel's animated movies have not be near as good DC's but throwing the Punisher in with the Avengers has me intrigued so may have to check this one out.

I love me some Jackie Chan and as I sit here I am realizing I have not watched any in awhile.  Jackie has still been putting out movies but the cool thing about this title is that this is the third movie of a trilogy that started with Armour of God and Operation Condor.  Both of those titles got many spins back in the laser disc days.  Does Jackie still do the post credit sequences that Hal Needham taught him?

Too Much TV

I gotta admit, I have a problem.  I have not been hooked on this much TV since I was 8.  I use to pride myself on not much of it but there are some really good shows on right now.  These are cutting into my movie watching and workout time but I must carry on.  At least a couple of these are about to be done for their season run.  Here is my poison for now:

And then this comes back in May:

It will be nice to have Jack back.

New Release Tuesday

The year’s, I am mean the biggest animated movie ever comes to Blu with this thing still in the top ten according to last week’s box office receipts.  I  cannot get away from this song as this thing was even playing at the gym the other night.

Great looking comedy from director David O.Russell with an outstanding cast too.  I cannot wait to check this out.

Scream Factory brings us the 1982 cult classic which was a rip off of every horror movie out around then and that is ok.

I am not sure what is up with Cartoon Network but they have abandoned three really good DC shows with this, Young Justice, and apparently Beware the Batman now.  I have a feeling Warner Brothers wants to get rid of the Hal Jordan Green Lantern in all forms and have the Rock come on board as the John Stewart Green Lantern in the near future.  This is a good show and nice to have it all in one season from Warner Archive.

Author P.L. Travers reflects on her childhood after reluctantly meeting with Walt Disney, who seeks to adapt her Mary Poppins books for the big screen.  Meh.

Twilight brings us this Sam Peckinpah classic on blu ray for the first time and it is about an American bartender and his prostitute girlfriend go on a road trip through the Mexican underworld to collect a $1 million bounty on the head of a dead gigolo.  I just watched this for the first time recently and really enjoyed it and I must say Warren Oates was fantastic in it.  This is limited to 3000 so get your fast.  http://www1.screenarchives.com/display_results.cfm

When Dirty Harry Met Sally

Discovery Movies of 2013

I see plenty of new movies over the year but I also make a point to go back and see some older movies that I missed for one reason or another.  Here are some of my favorites of last year:

A creepy movie where the late, great Vincent Prince gets revenge on doctors he believed were responsible for his wife’s death.  Now the cool thing here is Price does not say an entire word during the movie and is one mean organ player.

I have seen the original a few times before and got the box set for a good deal last year so I finally watched all the sequels of the classic franchise.  I really liked this one as the apes’ rebel against their human owners.  Roddy McDowall really was great in all of these and he really shined thru the makeup and masks.

I have always ranked Psycho II as the best horror sequel but this may take that place now.  It turns out that Dr. Frankenstein and the monster both survived as the good doctor makes a mate for the big dude.

This was a great movie as a couple adopt a young girl and she turns out not to be such a sweet little girl.

A very nice early 70s sci-fi flick about a space hippy who has Earth’s last plants on board and is ordered to destroy them but he is not on par with that idea.  This stars the great Bruce Dern and he has some interesting droids on board to keep him company.

I have always heard of Rob “Meathead” Reiner’s mockumentary but have never taken the time to give it the proper respect it deserves.  This is a comedy masterpiece as all involved went on to great careers in the business.  Even more impressive about this is that the stars are really good musicians as well and have made appearances as Spinal Tap through the years even as most recent as 2009 on various shows and shorts.

A Vietnam War hero returns home and is bestowed many honors and gifts by his home town then some thugs decide they want some of it.  This is a great revenge flick that showed vets could be a real bad ass before Rambo came around.

This movie is a trip as a young Emilio Estevez becomes a Repo Man and is introduced to some crazy and out of world stuff.  Also stars the great Harry Dean Stanton and he makes everything good.

A Nazi doctor has cloned many copies of Hitler in the hopes bringing the Third Reich around for a second time.   This has an all star cast with Gregory Peck, James Mason, and Laurence Olivier.  If you watch FX's Archer you need to see this.

I probably saw this as a kid as my grandfather had the Duke on TV when he could but I do not recall this classic.   Wayne is a cavalry rider that becomes protector of a women and her son living in hostile Apache territory.  This was from Wayne's Batjac production company and also starred Gunsmoke's James Arness.
