New Release Tuesday

Wow.  It has been along time since I have gotten to see this gem.  I always remember Clint Walker for this and The Dirty Dozen.  I recall the bear was not very scary in this but Walker was liable to take your head off!

Another tired retread from a TV show.  This one garnered a nice opening weekend so it has made its budget plus more so of course they are talking sequel.  Good luck with that!

The remake of Clash of the Titans was not that bad and I was surprised how much I liked it.  It got so much bad press because of its terrible 3D conversion  but I never let that bother me since a 2D movie is best viewed in 2D anyway.  This in my RedBox future.

The Rangers had a nice week last week to get their lead back to 4.5 games going into tonight but did get beat by the Tigers last night 8-2 as rookie Justin Grimm got slapped around after a dazzling debut.  The Rangers put starter Cobra Lewis on the DL today and called up starter Martin Perez from AAA.  That's 3 starting pitchers from the opening day roster on the DL now.  I am certainly glad Roy Oswalt chose to come here.

New Release Tuesday

This is the only release this week that peaked my interest.  It has a couple of TV guys and I recall the trailer being somewhat interesting so I shall give it a spin soon.  That is a way to sell a movie isn't it?

I will attempt to sell you on A&E's new show Longmire.  It is about a Wyoming Sheriff that does things the old fashioned way around his town.  He does not carry a cell phone, picks up trash, and is a heck of a shot with a rifle.  Longmire is a widower and has a grown up daughter so he has some baggage with him.  The show is off to nice start so far as Longmire and his crew have solved some crimes and he has also discovered one of his deputies is running against him come election time.  Features a nice supporting cast of Lou Diamond Phillips as get this, he is cast as an Indian and also stars Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackoff.  Give it a watch on Sunday nights.

Ol' Walt is At It Again

New Release Tuesday

Solid classic 80s action flick with Dolph Lundgren in his second starring role as a Russian soldier sent to Africa to kill an anti-communist black leader but has a change of heart once he arrives.  The great M. Emmet Walsh also stars.  Nicely directed by Joseph Zito (MIA, Invasion USA)  What ever happened to that guy?

A couple of years ago the first Sherlock surprised me and alot of other movie fans.  It was really good as Robert Downey Jr can carry just about any movie he works on now.  Looking forward to this follow up.

Nick Cage returns as Johnny Blaze to see if Sony can get Ghost Rider right this time.  Should be lots of fun as the directors of Crank take over on this franchise and give it the shot in the arm it needs.

The Rangers ended a not so good road trip taking 2 of 3 from San Francisco and won tonight 9-1 over the Diamondbacks.  Unfortunately the team has another pitching injury with Alexi Ogando as he will be out 4-6 weeks.  Roy Oswalt cannot get here quick enough.

TV Movie Poster Wednesday

This was one of the best TV productions I have seen and most of you agree with me since it was the most watched cable program ever.  Congrats to all that were involved.

New Release Tuesday

Ah, it's the first of June so that usually means some good action catalog releases just in time for Father's Day.  Today we have:

This is not the best Eastwood movie but it was his first almost action movie in quite awhile upon its release.  Clint plays a retired FBI agent who is put back to work to catch a killer that he has some familiarity with.

This film has gained some appreciation of the years and rightfully so.  Kevin Costner stars as an escape convict who takes a boy hostage to assist in his escape.  Clint play a Texas Rangers in pursuit of the pair.  This film had quite alot going for it during it release in 1993.  Costner was still a hot property at the time and Clint was coming off the successes of Unforgiven and In the Line of Fire but it failed critically and financially at theaters.  Highly Recommended.

One of the great 70s movies.  Burt Reynolds was at the top of his game as he and director pal Hal Needham turned in this great southern fried comedy classic with spectacular car stunts.  The highlight of this movie is the work of the late great Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed.  Great soundtrack by Mr. Reed also.   "Junior.  First thing I am gonna do when we get home is kick your Momma in the butt."

This will probably go down as this year's biggest bomb as Disney totally fumbled the ball on marketing this movie that has a story older then Star Wars and George Lucas even tried to acquire it back in the day.  Did you know John Carter was a Civil War soldier transported to Mars?  Did you know there are girls in this movie that lead to romance?  Don't feel bad, nobody did since none of that was in the trailers and that is why it failed.

Newman and Redford only did two movies together but they were good ones

Ryan Reynolds plays a CIA agent with a cush job watching a safe house until a notorious criminal (Washington) shows up as well as some people after him.

And finally Chuck gets some blu ray love as some of his classics are released.  I am quite jazzed about these as Delta Force and MIA 2 are receiving a widescreen release for the very first time.

The Rangers are 17-17 since May 1 and have been playing some sloppy ball lately.  Luckily the Rangers did sign starting pitcher Roy Oswalt and he should be ready in a few weeks.
