New Release Tuesday

Ah, it's the first of June so that usually means some good action catalog releases just in time for Father's Day.  Today we have:

This is not the best Eastwood movie but it was his first almost action movie in quite awhile upon its release.  Clint plays a retired FBI agent who is put back to work to catch a killer that he has some familiarity with.

This film has gained some appreciation of the years and rightfully so.  Kevin Costner stars as an escape convict who takes a boy hostage to assist in his escape.  Clint play a Texas Rangers in pursuit of the pair.  This film had quite alot going for it during it release in 1993.  Costner was still a hot property at the time and Clint was coming off the successes of Unforgiven and In the Line of Fire but it failed critically and financially at theaters.  Highly Recommended.

One of the great 70s movies.  Burt Reynolds was at the top of his game as he and director pal Hal Needham turned in this great southern fried comedy classic with spectacular car stunts.  The highlight of this movie is the work of the late great Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed.  Great soundtrack by Mr. Reed also.   "Junior.  First thing I am gonna do when we get home is kick your Momma in the butt."

This will probably go down as this year's biggest bomb as Disney totally fumbled the ball on marketing this movie that has a story older then Star Wars and George Lucas even tried to acquire it back in the day.  Did you know John Carter was a Civil War soldier transported to Mars?  Did you know there are girls in this movie that lead to romance?  Don't feel bad, nobody did since none of that was in the trailers and that is why it failed.

Newman and Redford only did two movies together but they were good ones

Ryan Reynolds plays a CIA agent with a cush job watching a safe house until a notorious criminal (Washington) shows up as well as some people after him.

And finally Chuck gets some blu ray love as some of his classics are released.  I am quite jazzed about these as Delta Force and MIA 2 are receiving a widescreen release for the very first time.

The Rangers are 17-17 since May 1 and have been playing some sloppy ball lately.  Luckily the Rangers did sign starting pitcher Roy Oswalt and he should be ready in a few weeks.
