New Release Tuesday

I love director Adam Green because the dude is living the dream!  He’s made 9 movies, a TV series, has an awesome podcast, and his own production company.  After you read those stats most people think he must be rolling in the dough but no he is a normal dude working in Hollywood trying to make ends meet.  He seems to be a guy that puts his hard earned money back into his own product and I salute him for that.
This is a documentary exploring a genre based monster art that takes an odd turn when the filmmakers are contacted by a man who claims he can prove that monsters are indeed real.  This has a great lineup for horror icons like Kane Hodder, Ray Wise, Tom Holland, Green himself and many more so check it out.   You can pick up the DVD at Wal Mart, get the blu ray from Amazon, or order an autographed copy from Green’s own website (Like me) here: http://ariescope.com/

About five years ago I finally got around to watching all the LoTRs and came away just kind of meh.  They looked great and had fantastic action sequences but I felt like I am watching a video game.  I will get around to watching these one of these days.

A witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.  I am probably going to pass on this musical.

A retired American boxer returns to the village where he was born in Ireland, where he finds love.  This is directed by the great John Ford and stars The Duke and Maureen O’Hara.  It features a great love story and some of the best scenery you will ever see on film.  Highly recommended.

After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.  This is a good looking real life story directed by Ms. Brad Pitt.  It’s from Hollywood so they had to remove all the Christian elements of the story and seeing what Zamperini went through I am pretty sure he leaned on his faith quite a bit during these harrowing situations in his life.  That is quite a shame.

The Truth is Still Out There so The X-Files Returns!

Fox has just announced The X-Files is returning to TV for a six episode event as creator Cris Carter and stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will be reprising their roles as FBI Agents Scully and Mulder.  This is one of the shows that I stopped down for every week and the series left plenty of unsolved mysteries on the table so this should be good.  Production is scheduled to begin this Summer with a pending release date to follow.

Remember the Alamo! In London

Poster by Ken Taylor
The best movie theater in the Galaxy is playing one of my favorite horror movies tomorrow, John Landis' An American Werewolf in London.  This is one of the first horror movies to mix in a bit of comedy with all the craziness that is going on in this and it still holds up as one of the best horror comedies ever.  This also features excellent make-up work from Rick Baker as you will not see any stinking CGI here.

So come to the Alamo tomorrow and grab a pint with me and watch this cinematic classic.

New Release Tuesday

Penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private join forces with undercover organization The North Wind to stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine from destroying the world as we know it.  I had a hard time sitting thru this one.

A foster kid, who lives with her mean foster mom, sees her life change when business tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in.  I already saw this movie 32 years ago.

The defiant leader Moses rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.  This movie bombed because Christian Bale cannot keep his mouth shut.  If you call Moses nuts that kind of scares off the audience you were hoping would come to the theater.

After narrowly escaping an ancient burial ground, a group of friends find themselves trapped between two evils, forcing them to fight, die, or go back the way they came.  This is probably the best release of the week and it has Kane Hodder in it!

Thomas Jane and Bruce Willis stars in this Sci-Fi thriller about ultimate resort: VICE, where customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look like humans.  WestWorld anyone?
