Chuck fears only one thing: Clint.

Movie Poster Wednesday

New Release Tuesday

Warner Brothers continues their great DC animated releases as Batman is the only human on the Justice League so he sometimes fears the rest of the league that someone may go rogue and cause harm to others.  Just in case this happens he has created a doomsday device to take out someone or the rest of the Justice League just in case.  Good stuff as the original animated series voice actors Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Time Daly (Superman) return to their roles.

Director Martin Scorsese's first family movie about a boy in Paris in the 30's that live at a train station and gets involved in a mystery.  This movie cleaned up on the technical awards on Oscar night.

Rangers Spring training is in full swing as inter squad games start tomorrow and Yu Darvish is the talk of camp.  Now all we can wish for is no major injuries and some nice spring work for everybody as the Rangers attempt to make it a trifecta.

Walking Dead was really good this week as the show had a good mix of zombie action and drama at the farm.  Rick could have left Shane for zombie steak but showed he is the better man and rescued him.   Now the group has a new member on their hands and has to figure out if he can stay around or not.

Justified had Raylan taking it to the Carpetbagger and getting the upper hand so far but oh does the Carpetbagger have some ammo to fire back with.  I love the Limehouse character as he is pitting Boyd against the Carpetbagger and so far has been undetected and continues to lie low.

Oscar Pics 2012

It' s that time of year where Hollywood pats themselves on the back again for a bunch of mediocre work this year.  A French movie looks to clean house tonight in some major categories but didn't they create a best foreign film category so this would not happen?  Tonight looks to be a snooze but I will make my picks and watch Walking Dead on AMC.

Best Pic= The Artist
Best Director=  Alexander Payne, The Descendants
Best Actress= Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady
Best Supporting Actress= Octavia Spencer, The Help (It would great if Melissa McCarthy would win!}
Best Actor= George Clooney, The Descendants
Best Supporting Actor= Christopher Plummer, The Beginners
Best Animated Pic= Rango
Cinematography= Tree of Life

Enjoy!

The FCC is after Clint for that SuperBowl Slip

Thanks to Clay Jones at fredericksburg.com

Clint Goes Back in Front of the Camera

Clint Eastwood has found a script worthy of his supreme acting talent and will star in the Warner Brothers drama Trouble with the Curve.  The road drama centers on an aging baseball scout (Clint) who goes on a road trip to search for new talent while trying to save his relationship with his adult daughter ( Amy Adams), a rising attorney who is on the verge of being promoted to partner.  Clint's character is going blind so it is his last scouting trip. Justin Timberlake will play a young rival scout who may be Adams’ love interest so hopefully Clint will take a bat to him and yell, "Get off my daughter!"

Filming starts this spring and the most surprising part of this news is that Clint will step aside form directing duties and will let his longtime producer partner Robert Lorenz make his directorial debut.  The film is slated for release on September 28, 2012.

Sly and Arnold go to The Tomb

It was announced last week that Sly and Arnold were using The Expendables as a teaser and will be reuniting together in The Tomb.   The official synopsis is:

The Tomb will star Stallone as Ray Bresli, the world's top expert on structural security and prison designer. But all his knowledge of high security prisons will be put under test when he finds himself having to escape from his own state-of-the-art prison.
Arnie will play Church, a prison inmate who helps the other prisoners in their struggle to stay alive.

Let the good times roll!

"Yo! You missed a spot."

New Release Tuesday

Michael Shannon stars as a man who might be going crazy or sick and decides to build an underground shelter because he thinks the world is coming to an end.  I like Shannon's work (World Trade Center, Bug) a lot; he is very compelling and just owns the screen when he is on it.

This year best zombie movie so I am in.  Send more cops!

The title is certainly intriguing, ranks with last year's fantastic Hobo with a Shotgun.  I have never even heard of this until today so I do not think I will be viewing this one.

Pitchers and catchers report in 8 days!  There are still some Roy Oswalt rumors out there as some say the Rangers are trying to clear some pay roll to add the right hander.

The Walking Dead returned this past Sunday as we saw some drifters come thru town for a short stay as Rick has certainly reasserted himself as the leader of the group.  Justified is on tonight as we find out if Dewey Crowe survives the jail nurse who looked like he was about to set up shop for some organ donations from Dewey.

Happy Valentines!

New Release Tuesday

This week is really weak for new releases so I will be very brief.

A cute new Disney release for us dog lovers.

Pure Awesomeness.

Pure crap.

Some minor moves for the Rangers as they signed some guys to minor league deals for depth.  Then in the last two days they have signed Elvis Andrus to a long term deal and also ALCS MVP Nelson Cruz to a new two year deal.  So only Mike Napoli is without a contract for this season and is scheduled for arbitration soon.  Pitchers and catchers report in less then two weeks!

Justified continues as the Detroit Carpetbagger's plans to undermine Boyd failed and Raylan reluctantly has to save Dickie again.  The Walking Dead returns this Sunday.

Old Legends Don't Die. They Just Go to Surgery Together.

Sly and Arnold really did have surgery at the same place yesterday.

Sly Shape

Here is a new pic from Sly. Man I need to lay off the cookies on the weekend.

Best. Commercial. Ever.

Very uplifting and inspiring commercial with the Man.  Enjoy.

New Release Tuesday

Ryan Gosling stars as a mechanic/stunt driver by day and getaway driver by night.  I look forward to this because it is from director Nicolas Winding Refn who did the fantastic Bronson in 2008.

This classic that we all had to read in junior high makes its blu debut as Gregory Peck leads the way as the all-time classic dad Atticus Finch.  Remember who played Boo Radley?

See my earlier post on this disappointing follow up to John Carpenter's classic horror movie.

The Ranger's Josh Hamilton had an alcohol relapse this week and that will make contract negotiations difficult.  Pitchers and catchers report soon.

Justified season 3 just keeps on bringing in bad guys and Raylan always seems to be one step ahead of everyone luckily.

The Thing

I remember my Dad taking me to see John Carpenter's 1982 original The Thing and being eight at the time and not quite knowing what I was watching at the time but I thought it was really cool anyway.  Carpenter's movie at the time was a critical and box office failure at release and looking back many have blamed that on E.T. where everyone expected their aliens to be cute and cuddly things you hide in your closet.  Carpenter's Thing has since gained much praise and is now considered a classic and you will see it in every top ten Halloween list every year.  So you can say I have been waiting for this prequel/remake for almost thirty years.  And that is the issue with this movie.

The first part of this movie is the Norwegian crew discovering the alien and its spaceship and then this movie slaps any fan of Carpenter's original right in the face and then it becomes a remake almost shot for shot in some cases from the Norwegian point of view.  If Carpenter's version was not held in such high regard a remake is okay but audiences have been waiting for a little something more from a Thing prequel or sequel for some time.  The original was also known for it great special effects from Rob Bottin and the effects here are of course bad CGI.  Too bad this movie had a lot to work with and much potential but missed its mark badly.  One thing I loved about this movie was the ending.  It was perfect and just what I was expecting.
