New Release Tuesday
Sly Stallone marks the first of his three movies of 2013
with this 80s throw back action film.
Sly stars as a hit man who teams with a cop to avenge the death of his
partner. This was a really good action
flick and I hope it scores well on home video. Directed well by Walter Hill (48 Hours, The
Long Riders) and he brings a great old school action feel to the movie. Jason Momoa is fantastic as the bad guy in
this but Sung Kang is absolutely awful as he spends his whole time on the
movie talking on the phone or whining to Sly.
Look for Sly in The Escape Plan in October and Grudge Match at
Christmas!
This is a great western series from AMC about the railroad
moving West and the struggles of some individuals who are involved with
it. Season two switched from season one’s
revenge tale to our anti hero being estranged for a bit but then redeems
himself to lead the railroad again. I
will not spoil anything but the season finale was quite shocking so I am really
interested to see where season three takes us in August.
This semi remake scored some positive reviews and looks
really scary. I try not to read much
about things I really want to see so I will be checking this out during the
weekend. It cannot be too bad if Bruce
Campbell was on board as a producer.

Happy Birthday Harry Dean Stanton!
The great Harry Dean Stanton turns 87 today. That is unbelievable seeing how much this guy has smoked. Any way sit back and enjoy some Cool Hand Luke, Kelley's Heroes, Alien, Escape From New York, Repo Man, and his cameo in The Avengers!

Sharknado!
Everyone has been going crazy for Syfy's Sharknado that debuted last night. Yes, just look at the poster and it is a bit but a funny one at that and the trailer is even better. I usually cannot stomach Syfy's original movies but may have to check this one out to just get a few laughs from the spare cast.

New Release Tuesday
It has been slow on the release front lately but that will change next week.
1981 produced two classic werewolf movies with the best
being An American Werewolf in London and this as the runner up. Dee Wallace plays a reporter that covers some
grisly murders and uncovers something much more hairy. Great stuff here from director Joe Dante.
A political, sci-fi kind of thriller where the government
tries to cover up a satellite collision with a UFO in space. Stars the late, great Darren McGavin.
Based on a true story, North Face is a suspenseful adventure
film about a competition to climb the most dangerous rock face in the Alps. Set
in 1936, as Nazi propaganda urges the nation's Alpinists to conquer the
unclimbed north face of the Swiss massif - the Eiger – as two reluctant German
climbers begin their daring ascent.
Clint Eastwood conquered this mountain in 1976.
One of the funniest movies ever! Steve Martin was the king of comedy with
this and his Saturday Night Live appearances back in the day. Martin and director Carl Reiner could do no
wrong on this and I hope this is the original cut of the film as opposed to the
more “politically correct” cut. The highest
of recommendations.
Also one of the funniest movies ever! This is a comedy composed of many segments and
also has a short spoof of Enter the Dragon called ‘A Fistful of Yen’. This is movie is hilarious and has a ton of
cameos. Directed by an unknown John
Landis at the time. Also the highest of
recommendations.
