Escape from Alcatraz on Blu!
Well, it's about time. Paramount has kept this classic buried in the archives so thankfully they have licensed Clint's studio home Warner Brothers to finally release this on blu ray. This was first released on DVD back in 1997 and it was not an anamorphic release so it is hard to sit thru on a nice TV these days. Sure you know the outcome of this but this is a great thriller and was the last collaboration between Eastwood and director Don Seigel. This classic gets released on blu October 13.

Holliston Lives!!!
It was announced today that Adam Green's sitcom Holliston will be back for a third season after a two year hiatus following the death of cast member Dave Brockie and the death of the network the show appeared on Fearnet. This is great news as this is a great show with way more heart then that nerd show on CBS. Congrats to all involved! See more about the season three release here
And if you need to get caught up on Holliston episodes see about that here. Then head over to Market Basket to get some beer and chips!

Everly
All you have to do is look at this poster and see Salma with
a machine gun. SOLD. Director Joe Lynch (The very awesome Wrong
Turn 2) himself calls this Die Hard in a room and I could not agree more. Salma Hayek plays Everly, a woman beaten in
her own apartment by a bunch of thugs.
When Everly gets a minute she manages to get herself together and
decides it’s time to take of care of business and kick some ass. She clears the apartment of said thugs with a
lot of gunfire and then battens down the hatches in the apartment because she
knows more thugs will be on the way.
It turns out Everly’s ex is the one that sent these guys and
he also happens to be the local mob boss.
Everly has a well-stocked kitchen of arms and is able to fend off the
first assault wave quite nicely. As Everly gets some of this bloody mess cleaned
up her mother and young daughter decide to pay a visit to her apartment and complicate
matters a little more. Finally, the big,
bad mob boss shows up himself with more men and heads up to Everly’s
apartment. Will Everly survive? What will she do with her Mom and
daughter? Give it a spin to find
out. This is a very good action movie that
basically takes place in the one apartment and that makes it a lot of fun being
contained in this one location.

New Release Tuesday
A young woman is followed by an unknown supernatural force
after getting involved in a sexual encounter.
This is the big horror movie of the year as of right now as this was
supposed to go VOD but was receiving such high praises that it received a small
theatrical run and that pushed its release to VOD and home video. I am all about independent horror movies so I
am looking forward to this flick.
A young programmer is selected to participate in a
ground-breaking experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human
qualities of a breath-taking female A.I.
This is another independent movie that has garnered a lot of attention
this year and it is probably much better than the crap released in theaters.
The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort
to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and
mutants. This was a great X-Men movie
released last summer that just had too much story in it so director Bryan
Singer has made this “Rogue” cut that is about 16 minutes longer and will
involve Anna Paquin’s Rogue character a little more this time around so it will
be cool to check out the difference of these two cuts of one of last year’s biggest
movies.
After an automobile crash, the lives of a young couple
intertwine with a much older man, as he reflects back on a past love. Ah, one of Clint Eastwood’s offspring seems
to have quite a career going for himself now. I am not sure this is my kind of
movie but Scott is making sure the name Eastwood will continue to be on movie
posters for a long time to come.
A failed attempt to make the masked man a movie franchise in
the early 80s as this is not a bad movie but not great either. The story behind this movie and its one
resume actor is more interesting than the movie itself. If you have not checked out Disney’s failed
version from two summers ago do yourself a favor and watch it, it is great.
On the U.S.-Mexican border, border cop Jeb Maynard is
hunting for a human smuggler responsible for Jeb partner's murder. I love me some Chuck Bronson and this also features
the great Ed Harris and Wilford Brimley who reminds you to eat your oatmeal and
to check your blood sugar. Often.
