New Release Tuesday

AMC’s drama with zombies has gotten a lot better the last two seasons and it’s no coincidence that it has had a new showrunner during this time.  The old showrunner would have taken twice as long to tell the stories we got the past two seasons so kudos to the newer guy for virtually putting it all out there and the viewers have noticed because ratings continue to climb for this horror series.

Get ready for the bricks to fly when Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League face off against the world's greatest super villains!  These Lego movies are really funny so I am going to get wild with this flick!

In New York City, a young man searches for the "master" to obtain the final level of martial arts mastery known as the glow. Along the way, he must fight an evil martial arts expert and rescue a beautiful singer from an obsessed music promoter.  I never saw this cult flick but I remember the music videos for it and I remember Vanity being quite a big deal back then.

The life of peaceful rancher John Benedict (William Holden) is torn apart when his family is massacred by a gang of marauding outlaws and his farm is destroyed. He assembles a team of mean, lawless convicts to act as his posse as he pursues the gang responsible for the deaths of his loved ones.  It’s a Western and it has Ernest Borgnine in it, what’s not to like?

In turn-of-the-century Mississippi, an 11-year-old boy comes of age as two mischievous adult friends talk him into sneaking the family car out for a trip to Memphis and a series of adventures.  This is one of the rare Steve McQueen movies I have not seen.  I will get around to this someday.

Ash vs Evil Dead

New Release Tuesday

A mysterious blonde woman kills one of a psychiatrist's patients, and then goes after the high-class call girl who witnessed the murder.  This murder mystery is a classic from director Brian De Palma who gives many nods to Hitchcock in this movie.  This stars the very beautiful duo of Angie Dickinson and Nancy Allen along with Michael Caine.  This has been issued on blu before but Criterion has done a lot of De Palma’s work in the past and has finally gotten around to this title and it should be worth the upgrade.  Highy recommended.

The Joker is aided in his Halloween quest to render modern technology useless and take over Gotham City by Solomon Grundy, Silver Banshee, Clayface and Scarecrow.  Warner Brothers continues its wide variety of DC Super hero projects as this one is aimed at the kiddies and even has a line of toys.  But hey, it’s Batman!

An Indian warrior called Navajo Joe seeks revenge on a gang of sadistic outlaws who has massacred the people of his tribe.  This was Burt’s first movie as the star and it is a Spaghetti Western so I have always considered this his ‘Fistful of Dollars’ and even the music is by Ennio Morricone.

A young boy is arrested by the U.S. Secret Service for writing a computer virus and is banned from using a computer until his 18th birthday. Years later, he and his new-found friends discover a plot to unleash a dangerous computer virus, but they must use their computer skills to find the evidence while being pursued by the Secret Service and the evil computer genius behind the virus.  I remember this movie having really cool computer devices like modems and such.  From the greatness that is Shout Factory.
