New Release Tuesdays

We are living in strange times right now.  I am fortunate that I can work from home.  I packed up an extra monitor with some other office stuff and I am doing it.  I like it because I am much more productive, I do not have to commute, and I do not spend so much time picking out what t shirt to wear.  So my family is staying home working and going to school.  We have been out a couple of times to the grocery store and I went to Wal-Mart last week for some blu rays and TP.  I got lucky on the TP, the guy was bringing it out and the pallet never got to the shelf.  So please stay in if you can, practice social distancing if you are out, and take some time every day to check on someone you have not seen or heard from in awhile.  The part I do not like the most about this is all of the gyms are closed.  I get up at 5 weekdays and go lift at the gym.  It is my getaway, my therapy and I miss it.  I am taking long walks, doing a lot of push-ups, bands and other exercises but man I miss the iron.  There has been some good stuff come out the last couple of weeks, let's see what they are.

He is always watching.
Jumanji: The Next Level- The gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to rescue one of their own, the players will have to brave parts unknown from arid deserts to snowy mountains, to escape the world's most dangerous game.  The last one was a lot of fun and the whole family enjoyed that one and we were all on board this one too.  I really like the twist of Rock Johnson and Kevin Hart playing Danny Devito and Danny Glover, they are really funny.

Superman: Red Son- What if baby Kal-El's rocket landed, not in Kansas, but in the Soviet Union? This is a really cool premise and it is a very good flick.  Is it now Truth, Justice, and the Russian way?

Raw Courage- Marathon runners are taken captive in desert by right-wing militia.  This is a movie I have been waiting for a long time.  I am not even sure this movie made the transition from VHS but it is finally here.  This was on cable all the time back in the day and I have not seen it since then so I am glad Mr. Amazon brought this last week.

Black Christmas- A group of female students are stalked by a stranger during their Christmas break. That is until the young sorority pledges discover that the killer is part of an underground college conspiracy.  Do we need another one of these?  I loved the original and the remake is not too bad either but Blumhouse announced this in the summer and it was already completed and ready for Christmas.  The trailer gave away too much and this got lost at the box office just like the other two movies.  I am a sucker for Christmas horror so I hope the best for this watered down PG-13 horror.

Richard Jewell- American security guard Richard Jewell saves thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics, but is vilified by journalists and the press who falsely reported that he was a terrorist.  Clint Eastwood movies are always required viewing but I have to admit I was not that interested in seeing this at the theater.  He was not in it and it did not have a big name to pull people in so it was the worst opening of his career.  I have read that it is a really good movie with fantastic performances and that is the Eastwood way when it comes to storytelling.

Dark Waters- A corporate defense attorney takes on an environmental lawsuit against a chemical company that exposes a lengthy history of pollution.  This is a very intriguing looking drama that really makes you think and wonder if we are all getting exposed to anything dangerous that gets covered up by the big corporations.

Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street- Examines the infamous homoerotic subtext and the special place the film holds in the Nightmare franchise as well as the gay film canon. Partly in thanks to evolving social mores, Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - which was considered controversial at the time of its release - is now being looked back upon with a new appreciation and fondness by horror aficionados and fans of the series.  I saw Nightmare 2 once and hated it so I may watch this and give part 2 a new viewing some time.

Charlie’s Angels- There is absolutely nothing appealing about this action flick.  I was intrigued when Elizabeth Banks was onboard as director but then I saw the cast she got saddled with and I was out.
