New Release Tuesday of Yesterdays
Blacklight- Travis Block is a government operative coming to terms with his shadowy past. When he discovers a plot targeting U.S. citizens, Block finds himself in the crosshairs of the FBI director he once helped protect. These Neeson action movies are starting to look a like and that could get boring. Either way, I still like them so he will keep making them.
Extreme Prejudice- A Texas Ranger and a ruthless narcotics kingpin - they were childhood friends, now they are adversaries... This may be the release of the year as this debuts on blu ray and we finally get a nice widescreen version of this action classic. They do not make action movies like this anymore and director Walter Hill was at the top of his game with this one. If you are easily offended you should probably pass on this action classic.
Licorice Pizza- The story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973. I like PTA’s movies but it always seems like he is chasing Oscar just like smacker Will Smith. Probably should not mention those names in the same sentence so apologies to PTA. PTA always makes good stuff so I will get around to spinning this soon.
Uncharted- Street-smart Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan, and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. A very generic looking action cgi flick. I am not sure about this one.
Ghost and the Darkness- A bridge engineer and an experienced old hunter begin a hunt for two lions after they start attacking local construction workers. I am glad to see this finally get a blu ray release too. This is back when Val Kilmer was kind of a stud and could still talk. This is a great action flick.
Escape form New York- In 1997, when the U.S. president crashes into Manhattan, now a giant maximum-security prison, a convicted bank robber is sent in to rescue him. One of my favs. Classic Carpenter and Russell in their best collaboration. I think I have bought this my starting with VHS about eight or nine times now. Highly recommended.
Day
to Die- Connor Connolly has one day to pay reparations
to Tyrone Pettis. He is forced to ask his old military ops crew, led by Brice
Mason, to come together to get him two million dollars before he loses everyone
he loves in the process. Bruno’s
career is wrapping up but he finished at least another half dozen DTV movies
before hanging it up. So look forward to
a few more movies like this one, then it's off to the sunset for Bruno. And that is very sad.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2- When Chris Rhymer, and her young son Jeremy, are forced to relocate to a small, rural community, they have no idea of the past terror that their presence re-awakens. The original made for TV movie came in 1981. I believe this is a new record for a sequel of 41 years that just beat Top Gun’s 36 years. The OG was among the best made for TV horror movies back then so it will be interesting to check this one out from the writer and now director of the first one.
