New Release Tuesday

Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind's new space defenses be enough?  I am not sure why Fox waited 20 years for this sequel and did anyone really want it?  Even Will Smith was smart enough to stay away from this and he will do any movie for money.  I did not make it to the theater for this one but I will check it out soon.

This is a great show but my sucky Frontier cable provider had some On Demand issues so I watched episode 1 and got shut out for the rest of the season.  I look forward getting caught up with Norman and his mother’s adventures.  This show wraps on Season five so it is gonna be cool to see where they go with this iconic horror character.

A novelist and a young horror fan attempt to save a small New England town which has been invaded by vampires.  This was one of the great TV movies of its time and still holds up well today and I am glad to see a blu release for this Stephen King title.  Directed by Tobe Hooper, the who helmed the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

In 1960, seven outcast kids known as "The Loser Club" fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown.  It’s been a long time since I have seen this TV flick and the remake just wrapped filming recently plus clowns are all the rage right now so this is coming at the right time.

A stray cat is the linking element of three tales of suspense and horror. I have never seen this and I did not know it was an anthology story either so this should be in the mail today.

I really like director Guillermo Del Toro’s movies because he invests so much into his work as the guy is very hands on about almost every aspect of movie making; it is a labor of love for him.  Criterion has previously released Cronos and The Devil’s Backbone but now Pan’s Labyrinth is being released by Criterion on a single disc or in this special trilogy boxset.  I got to admit the box set is the way to go here and Barnes and Noble’s half off Criterion sale starts November 1.

A wax museum owner uses his horror exhibits to unleash evil on the world.  This is another Vestron Video release that looks really good.

Conservative street cop DaSilva (Sly) reluctantly agrees to terminate an international terrorist who has demanded media attention. But DaSilva's "at-home" tactics are very much put to the challenge.  This is one of Sly’s movies he does not talk too much about as at this time in his career he was at a crossroads as the first two Rocky movies were hits but everything he tried was not lighting up the box office.  This unfortunately did not light up the box office either but it has achieved cult status over the years and is well regarded now as it is a solid action movie with a great villain played by Rutger Hauer.  But do not worry about Sly about this time period, First Blood was right around the corner for him.  This is from Shout Factory and has been delayed for a while and it is disappointing because there does not appear to be a new cut of this film as it has always been known it was heavily cut.  For example, Sly shoots twice at the end of the movie but someone has six holes in them.  That math does not add up on that scene.

Child’s Play is one of those movies that took me awhile to get onboard with as it just did not do much for me when it was released.  The whole franchise was that way for me, I only started to appreciate it within the last decade.  Chucky is the only horror icon from the 70s and 80s that has not been rebooted or remade yet as Mike, Jason, Freddy, Leatherface and many more have gone that route but Chucky even has a new movie in pre-production.  Directed by the great Tom Holland (Psycho 2 and the originalFright Night).  This is a Scream Factory release so it should be great!
