Batman: Mask of the Phantasm to Blu Ray

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm begins when the city’s most feared gangsters are systematically eliminated and the Caped Crusader is blamed. But prowling the Gotham night is a shadowy new villain, the Phantasm, a sinister figure with some link to Batman’s past. Can the Dark Knight elude the police, capture the Phantasm and clear his own name?  Warner Archive finally releases this so find out on July 25th.  I still think this may be the best Batman movie so far.

New Release Tuesday

Death Line aka Raw Meat- There's something pretty grisly going on under London in the Tube tunnels between Holborn and Russell Square. When a top civil servant becomes the latest to disappear down there Scotland Yard starts to take the matter seriously.  Director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) sold me on this movie ages ago on his Trailers from Hell commentary but this movie has been out of print on DVD and has a pretty price tag but Blue Underground has released this shiny new blu ray with a much better price.  It has some great reviews for its video and audio quality and is packed with special features.  I cannot wait to give this a spin.

Belko Experiment- In a twisted social experiment, 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogotá, Colombia and ordered by an unknown voice coming from the company's intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.  A very interesting premise and this is written by James Gunn who also wrote and directed those little Guardians of the Galaxy movies, no big deal.

Power Rangers- A group of high-school students, who are infused with unique superpowers, harness their abilities to save the world. The Power Rangers came way after my time so I have no interest in this but I was amazed at how the trailer for this made it look very much like Chronicle with Kung-Fu of course.  I hear this is much better than it should have been but I am going to pass.

CHIPs- A rookie officer is teamed with a hardened pro at the California Highway Patrol, though the newbie soon learns his partner is really an undercover Fed investigating a heist that may involve some crooked cops.  I remember this being filmed like two years ago and then it fell off the map and then all of the sudden a poster appeared and it was scheduled to be in theaters very soon.  It had a small publicity push before release and then crashed and burned and was the turkey it smelled like it was.  Why do they try to turn these old action shows into comedies?  That formula does not seem to work, look back and Starsky and Hutch and now at Baywatch.

The Rockford Files- The cases of an easy going ex-convict turned private investigator.  I may have to bite on this set because I really enjoyed this show in syndication and Jim Garner just seemed like himself playing in this role and got into some pretty cool weekly shenanigans.  This show has one of the best theme songs ever.
