New Release Tuesdays

I live in Texas and it is a really hot summer this year compared to the last few so I have been doing my yard work and then staying inside and doing some movie watching.  Here is what has come out on disk the last couple of weeks:

A Quiet Place- In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.  This is the sleeper hit of the year so far and I still cannot believe Jim from The Office is directing movies these days.

Chappaquiddick- Depicting Ted Kennedy's involvement in the fatal 1969 car accident that claims the life of a young campaign strategist, Mary Jo Kopechne.  I like history movies especially if it involves the Kennedys.

Bull Durham- A fan who has an affair with one minor-league baseball player each season meets an up-and-coming pitcher and the experienced catcher assigned to him.  This is my absolute favorite baseball movie and I have bought this title more times than I care to admit but this is Criterion so it will definitely be worth the upgrade.

One Good Cop- An NYPD Detective and his struggle for justice, while taking care of his late partner's three little girls after he is killed in the line of duty.  I remember this being a solid action/drama cop movie.

Rampage- When three different animals become infected with a dangerous pathogen, a primatologist and a geneticist team up to stop them from destroying Chicago.  The Rock is cooking up a lot of fun in this disaster flick that is loosely based on the old arcade game but spoiler alert, the giant animals do not change into a naked man after they get shot down off the building.   This is a good time and only Dwayne Johnson could pull this type of role off.

Isle of Dogs- Set in Japan, Isle of Dogs follows a boy's odyssey in search of his lost dog. I have loved Wes Anderson’s films ever since I was one of four people in the theater watching Bottle Rocket years ago.  These all seem to get the Criterion treatment quickly so I may rent and hold out for that.

Super Troopers 2- When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers are tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in the disputed area.  I liked the first one a lot but I did not hear much chatter on this sequel and I wonder if they waited a little too long to make another.  Anyway, I am going to get a litter of cola and watch this soon.
