New Release Tuesdays

Well, Halloween is over so now it is time to be thankful and get ready for Christmas.  There has not been many new releases the past couple of weeks but there was an upgrade to one of the best horror movies ever, a remake that has been in demand for quite while now, and The Rock latest.  Let's take a look:

The Blob- Remake of the 1958 sci-fi horror classic about a deadly blob from another planet which consumes everything in its path. Teenagers attempt without success to warn the townspeople, who refuse to take them seriously.  This is one of the best remakes ever and it also has the second best practical special effects after John Carpenter’s The Thing.  This was available in a limited release on Blu a long time ago but this new release is from Scream Factory and is stuffed with great goodies.  Highly recommended.

An American Werewolf in London- Two American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.  This is the best werewolf movie and is also the best horror comedy ever.  I have bought this movie several times but Arrow Video has made this the definitive release and it is a no brainer if you are unsure about making this upgrade.  I know I just boasted about practical effect above.  In this movie they were so good they made Special Effects and Oscar category and this won.  The highest of recommendations!

Hobbs and Shaw- Lawman Luke Hobbs and outcast Deckard Shaw form an unlikely alliance when a cyber-genetically enhanced villain threatens the future of humanity.  I did not start watching Fast and Furious flicks until The Rock came onboard the franchise and he has made these movies a lot of fun so I think a spinoff was inevitable to keep the franchise going strong.  This one has a little more comedy than the others because Rock and Statham play off each other so well but there is still a bunch of action and it is very enjoyable.  This proved powerful at the box office so expect more of them and I say bring ‘em.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark- On Halloween 1968, reclusive Stella and her two friends meet a mysterious drifter, Ramón, and uncover a sinister notebook of stories.  I missed this one but I absolutely loved director Andre Ovredal’s Troll Hunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe.  I already have this and look forward to spinning it soon.

Mr. Nice Guy- A Chinese chef accidentally gets involved with a news reporter who filmed a drug bust that went awry, and is now being chased by gangs who are trying to get the video tape.  This is not the best Jackie Chan movie but I am real glad to see them getting upgraded to Blu.
