Shame on you ABC!

Let me start this off with stating Seth McFarlane did an excellent job hosting the Oscars.  I loved his routine and he is a very good song and dance guy.  The opening act went a little long but hey he got Tommy Lee Jones to laugh and smile so mission accomplished.  The ratings were up for the annual show and that some of that could be attributed to the host but I am betting most of the increase was because the movies nominated were ones people liked.  I did not tune in last year because I knew The Artist was going to clean up at the show.  Now onto my issues with the show.

First, ABC has been promoting the James Bond 50 Year Anniversary Tribute for weeks.  This must be really something to be pumping it that much.   Crazy Halle Berry comes out and states something to the effect of let’s celebrate Bond’s 50 years of MUSIC.  Queue very bad video montage; where’s Roger Moore in there?  He did the most films so there should be plenty of clips to choose from.  Then Shirley Bassey comes out and sings Goldfinger.  She looks and sounds great!  Wonder what‘s next?  Is Sir Paul McCartney going to come out and do Live and Let Die next?  What about Duran Duran for A View to a Kill?  This is the perfect time for Adele to come perform Skyfall.  So what do we get once Ms. Bassey is finished?  A commercial break.  What a dud.  I checked Youtube for the Oscar promos and not once does it state Bond musical tribute.

Second, the show is running late but who cares.  It is very rude to run off these artists who have worked hard and has earned an award from their peers.  Let them make their acceptance speech not run them off the stage with Jaws.

Third, it is best picture time and Jack walks out, no need for last names here.  He queues up the video screen above him and the first lady appears?  Why do we need an elected official’s wife doing anything at the Oscar’s?  I know it is Liberal Hollywood but not so much for the TV viewing audience.   I also know the first couple desperately wants to be part of the entertainment industry, lord knows they are not getting anything else done, but politicians and movies do not mix and hopefully it will not be done again.

Congratulations to Ben Affleck and ARGO for best picture.  Even though you know the outcome of the movie it still keeps you the edge of your seat and is a great ride!

2013 Oscar Predictions

I always have to post these every year because the year I did not I picked 'em perfect!  Oscar nominations are all over the place this year and there were quite a few worthy people left out this year.  (Affleck, Tarantino, even DiCaprio!)

It looks to be a great show on Sunday as host Seth McFarland should do a freakin' sweet job.  I am also looking forward to the James Bond anniversary and Psycho segments of the program.

And the winners are:

Best Picture: Argo
Best Director: Steven Spielberg, Lincoln
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln
Best Supporting Actor:  Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln  (This is the toss up category of the night)
Best Actress: Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
Best Animated Movie: Wreck-It Ralph

Movie Poster Wednesday- The Shootist

New Release Tuesday

I have not seen this yet and will try to view it before Sunday’s Oscar telecast.  When the Oscar nominations were announced it looked as if Lincoln was set to run the table but the tables have turned lately and this is the dark horse to claim the top prize even if its director stands on the sideline. I loved Affleck’s The Town and cannot wait to give this a spin.

HBO puts out quality shows and this one seems to have quite a rabid fan base right now.  I am backlogged on shows right now and I will try to squeeze this in with season 1 in the summer.  Maybe.

Great week for horror!

One of last year’s best reviewed horror flicks.  I cannot believe I am going to give into an Ethan Hawke flick but supposedly it is that good!

My friends at Scream Factory are putting out some 80s gold this week.  They do an excellent job of reissuing some forgotten horror by adding some nice bonus feature and doing a great job on the audio and video as well.  Check them out:  http://www.shoutfactory.com/?q=screamfactory
