New Release Tuesday

Sly Stallone went on record this week to admit they screwed up on making this PG13.  That and this getting leaked online cost this movie a lot of money, around 100-200 million.  I gotta admit the PG13 thing probably did more damage because we have come to expect these flicks to be violent action, hardcore R movies. It is not right to change course on your audience like that ratings wise.  If I want to see a watered down PG13 movie I will watch a Fast and Furious movie.  The good news today is that we get an unrated version on the blu ray so there is hope the movie may be a little more violent as I suspect a lot of CGI blood to be incorporated here.  This is by no means a bad movie I just believe we all expected a little more here.  Mel Gibson kills it as the bad guy here and Wesly Snipes is awesome in this too and has the best line of the movie.  We get some new, younger Expendables to join Sly and the gang and they seem like a bunch of wussies.  They are more worried about their hair then kicking ass.  Arnold has a much bigger role in this and gives us quite a surprise at the end with Jet Li.  This is still a good action flick so do the right thing and pay to see it.  Do it!

Pierce Brosnan is an ex-CIA operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect.  Brosnan as a spy huh?  I’ m in.  I never liked how Brosnan was kicked to the curb by the Bond franchise even though it was the right time and decision so I am really glad to see him back doing some action.  Might he follow the Liam Neeson route here?  I have only heard one negative review on this spy action flick.

Visitors to a remote island discover that a reclusive Nazi commandant has been breeding a group of Zombie soldiers.  Nazi zombies are really popular right now as there are many DTVs out but this flick from 1977 led the way.

Elliot Gould stars as Detective Philip Marlowe as he tries to help a friend who is accused of murdering his wife.  How many Marlow movies have there been?  Why hasn’t he made a comeback?  I think this would be a good reboot.  Also look for a certain Austrian bodybuilder in this crime thriller.

New Release Tuesday

I really like Robert Rodriguez’s films but I have never taken the time to see either of these yet.  I even scored a copy of an Oscar screener copy of Sin City at Half Price books but it still sits on the shelf.  I like the look and style of these but very mixed reviews always leads me to putting it off and selecting something else.  One of these days…

I never watched the show but 21 Jump Street was a solid action, comedy flick.  I am just about ready to let Channing Tatum into the cool guy club.

I have never seen this Christmas horror flick as I always fancy Silent Night, Deadly Night myself but I am willing to give this a shot.  A psycho in a Santa suit gets to decide who's been naughty and who's been nice.  Think Norman Bates as Santa.

Oh, we got some good stuff here.  I may seriously have to look at upgrading to this blu from my DVD that looks like it is the laser disc version.  Tom Thomerson stars as Jack Deth and he is a kind of cop/bounty hunter in the bleak Los Angeles of the future. He's become obsessed with chasing Whistler - an evil criminal who uses powerful hypnotic powers to convert people into zombie like creatures known as trancers. Whistler has managed to escape through time travel and is loose in 1980s L.A. but Deth is on his trail.  This is a really cool low budget movie in the vein of the Terminator and also stars Helen Hunt.

Just for you Pete.

Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, flying cows, and an indestructible Dodge truck take on tornadoes.  Wait a sec...
