New Releases Last Week Again

It actually slowed down at work here for a moment so let's get caught up on what came out on disc last week.  The action movie of the year I have been waiting for, a horror classic, and couple of new titles grace us this week, so let's do this.  BTW, Merry Christmas!

Rambo: Last Blood- Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission.  I was expecting a little more from this movie because the last one was excellent.  It is still a great action flick and it runs a quick 89 minutes but it’s just missing a little heart (no pun intended if you have seen this) to it and I think I know why.  The rest of the world saw a version that was 101 mins that had Rambo rescuing flood victims at the beginning of the movie and some various other moments that build the character’s relationship with Gabrielle.  This sounds like what Stallone did with Cobra back in 1986.  Cobra was squaring off against Top Gun in 1986 and the word is Sly chopped Cobra from almost a 2 hour run time to 86 minutes to squeeze one more showing a day per theater. It paid off as Cobra beat Top Gun at the box office that weekend.  Maybe this is why the U.S. got a shorter cut, but this finished third at the box office.   So expect a new Rambo box set next year with this extended cut.  I am cool with that. Recommended.

Silver Bullet: A werewolf terrorizes a small city where lives the paralytic Marty Coslaw, his uncle, and his sister, the story's narrator.  This is probably my second favorite werewolf movie next to An American Werewolf in London.  I am very happy to see Scream Factory releasing this on blu finally.

Trick- A no-nonsense detective tries to track down a mass murderer named Trick, who is terrorizing a small town.  This is from the guys that brought you Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine remake and I love those so I cannot wait to give this a spin.

Acceleration- A mom has one night to do some tasks in LA requiring a gun, if she wants to see her son alive. He's held by a mob boss.  I am a sucker for Dolph Lundgren movies and hopefully this one is better than the last one, The Tracker.
