New Release Last Tuesday
Cobra- A tough-on-crime street cop must
protect the only surviving witness to a strange murderous cult with far
reaching plans. Crime is a disease, and Sly
is the cure. This Sly action flick has picked up
some steam over the years and is really appreciated these days. When this was announced I was hoping Shout
Factory would put the work print version of the film out but I guess there are
issues with that. As the story goes the
WB and Sly were getting nervous that Top Gun would beat them at the box office
so Sly went in and cut out thirty to forty minutes of the film so it would get
an extra play per day at the theater and the plan worked as Cobra was the
number one movie that weekend. This is a
great action flick that gives a nod to Dirty Harry and is worth the upgrade to
this new edition as it looks much better.
Highly recommended.
First Man- A look at the life of the astronaut Neil
Armstrong and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man
to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969. This
is one of those movies that you need to see in the theater because the visual effects
are awesome. I liked this movie but I
wanted to love it so I am glad it is out so I can spin it at home now. The sound track in amazing and spoiler alert,
he makes it to the moon!
Dirty Rotten
Scoundrels- Two con men try to settle their rivalry by betting on
who can swindle a young American heiress out of $50,000 first. Confession time, I have never seen this even though it was on
HBO all the time I just never found it that appealing.
10 to
Midnight- A LAPD detective is on the trail of a very handsome young man who had
been seducing and slashing many young women to death. Man, I love me some Cannon Chuck
Bronson. This is a Bronson cop flick and
it is the closet thing Bronson ever did to a horror movie and it’s pretty
entertaining. This is one of those
movies that back in the day when they had a title, a movie poster, and Bronson
and sold it before film ever rolled on it.
The title has nothing to do with the movie but it is fun trying to figure
out if it does. I have the Twilight version
of this so I am not sure if I will upgrade to this new Shout Factory edition.
