New Release Tuesday

Night of the Creeps- Alien brain parasites, entering humans through the mouth, turn their host into a killing zombie. Some teenagers start to fight against them.  I remember this movie from the VHS days because it had a great trailer on other horror movies but I never got around to seeing it until a few years ago at the first Dismember the Alamo.  It is a really fun horror comedy and the great Tom Atkins steals the show.  I ordered this new edition from Scream Factory at the beginning of the year and it was delayed so I was glad to get this last weekend.  Thrill me!

Dumbo- A young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, helps save a struggling circus, but when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.  This movie came and went rather quick and kind of flopped at the box office but my wife loves Dumbo so we will give it a spin soon.  Has Tim Burton lost it?

Lost Highway- After a bizarre encounter at a party, a jazz saxophonist is framed for the murder of his wife and sent to prison, where he inexplicably morphs into a young mechanic and begins leading a new life. As I mentioned last week I am not into David Lynch movies (Love Joe Lynch movies though!) so I am not interested in this but but I am enjoying the pissing match going on between Lynch and the studio releasing this, Kino Lorber.  Lynch has publicly criticized the release saying it was made from old elements and not from a restoration of the original negative, so he has crapped all over this release.  Kino responded today saying the director was originally on board with this but then became disinterested so they could not use the original without his permission.  They even delayed the release hoping he would get back to them, but he gave them the Heisman so they carried on with their planned release.  Criterion will probably release a Lynch approved edition in the future so buyer beware.

The Beast in Heat- This is a fictionalized World War 2 Nazi POW camp atrocitiy. A beautiful, nefarious senior female SS officer/doctor creates a genetic, mutant human Beast (half man/half beast). The Beast is a sex fiend which she uses to torture and molest female prisoners while the Nazis watch. The vertically challenged beast is kept on a diet of mega-aphrodisiacs. Sound like some good, fun Italian horror!
