New Release Tuesdays

Charley Varrick- A man, his wife, and their friend, stage a bloody bank robbery, unaware they are stealing money from the Mob.  I have been waiting a long time for this to come out on blu.  This was Don Seigel’s first movie after Dirty Harry and it is a great heist flick that keeps Matthau and his crew on the run from a bad ass Joe Don Baker that is on their tail.  Highly recommended.

Road Games- A truck driver plays a cat-and-mouse game with a mysterious serial killer on a desolate Australian highway.  This has been out of print for a long time so I got a region free copy awhile back but finally we get this great horror gem in the states on blu.  If you have not seen this you need to fix that and see the best Hitchcock movie ever not directed by the man himself but his protégé Richard Franklin (Psycho 2).

Winter Kills- The Pickering Commission concluded that a lone gunman killed US President Kegan in 1960, in Philadelphia. 19 years later a dying man confesses to be the real shooter hired to kill him. Kegan's brother and filthy rich father investigate.  I have never seen this but that is an interesting premise to go along with JFK.

Someone Behind the Door- A neurosurgeon with a cheating wife takes an amnesiac into his home and conditions him to believe that the cheating wife is his own and to take the "appropriate" action.  I heard about this on a podcast a couple of weeks ago and never knew that Charlie Bronson and Norman Bates were in a movie together.  This is going on my Christmas list.

The Fan- Douglas, a record salesman, is an obsessive fan of actress Sally Ross. When his letters are rejected, he strikes out at her and her loved ones.  I have never seen this either but have always heard great things about this horror thriller.

The Peanut Butter Falcon- Zak runs away from his care home to make his dream of becoming a wrestler come true.  This may be my favorite movie of the year because it’s very uplifting.  I do not care for the stars of this movie but in this case they become actual human beings that you care what happens to them.  Highly recommended.

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot- With the help of an irreverent young sidekick, a bank robber gets his old gang back together to organize a daring new heist.  Another movie I have bought more times than I care to mention but this is a new scan and I do like that Clint Eastwood.  This is still my favorite buddy movie.

I love Thunderbolt & Lightfoot!! Many interesting people worked on that film in my hometown at the time. In just 5 short years after this film I started in the film industry and formed a lot of friendships with a lot of them.
I don't care what people say, Cimino was a genius.
