New Release Tuesday

Den of Thieves- A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and the state's most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.  This is a good, manly action movie that did so-so business at the box office but has a sequel in the works already. Reminds me of Michael Mann’s excellent Heat and that is a good thing.

Hostiles- In 1892, a legendary Army captain reluctantly agrees to escort a Cheyenne chief and his family through dangerous territory.  I love me a good Western and this looks worthy of a watch.  I liked Bale in the 3:10 to Yuma remake and I loved playing Cowboys and Indians as a kid.

Dead Man- On the run after murdering a man, accountant William Blake encounters a strange North American man named Nobody who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world.  I saw this on laser disc when it was first released  and I have not seen it since but I remember it being quite a solid Western.  If definitely deserves another spin soon.

Joe- Bill, a wealthy businessman, confronts his junkie daughter's drug-dealing boyfriend; in the ensuing argument, Bill kills him. Panic-stricken, he wanders the streets and eventually stops at a bar. There he runs into a drunken factory worker named Joe, who hates anyone who is "different", and would like to kill someone himself. The two start talking, and Bill reveals his secret to Joe. Complications ensue.  I have never seen this but it comes from the late, great director John Avildsen (Rocky, The Karate Kid).
