New Release Tuesdays

Yes, I have been slacking when it comes to the blog lately.  There is not as much new stuff coming out right now but with more movies slated to come out this Summer we will start having more new releases soon.  I enjoyed Godzilla vs Kong at the theater recently and you should too, that was made for the big screen.  Here are some titles that have come out recently that are worth a spin, check them out:

Stop or My Mom Will Shoot- A tough police sergeant's overbearing mother comes to visit him and begins to meddle in his life and career. I have never seen this whole movie just then end on cable one morning because it was Sly.  I am a completist though, so I have added this and I still need Oscar to make the Sly collection complete.  It came out just a couple of years ago that Arnold tricked Sly into signing onto this movie.  Arnold read it and knew it was junk and he knew Sly was involved too so he told his agent to “put it out there” that he was fixing to sign the deal.  Sly caught wind of this and signed up for it right away and the rest is history.

Psycho Goreman- After unearthing a gem that controls an evil monster looking to destroy the Universe, a young girl and her brother use it to make him do their bidding.  This is my favorite of the year so far.  It is a low budget Canadian sci-fi horror comedy that has a lot of heart.  This one is very fun so just sit back and enjoy and it has a killer soundtrack too.  Highly recommended.

Runaway Train- Two escaped convicts and a female railway worker find themselves trapped on a train with no brakes and nobody driving.  This was probably the best movie The Cannon Group, Inc ever put out.  It was nominated for some Oscars that included noms for both Jon Voight and Eric Roberts.  It is a fantastic action thriller that has been out of print for a while so I will definitely be picking this up soon.  Highly recommended.

Willy’s Wonderland- A quiet drifter is forced into a janitorial job at the now condemned Willy's Wonderland. The mundane tasks suddenly become an all-out fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics. Fists fly, kicks land, titans clash -- and only one side will make it out alive.  Imagine you are locked up in a ShowBiz Pizza place after hours and you are taking on all the characters in the place, that’s what this is.  And it is pretty awesome.  Yes, this is one of those Nick Cage movies where he got a few million to shoot for a few days and then his extra does all the work but he is great in this and he is the tough, silent type in this horror comedy.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia- An American bar room pianist and his prostitute girlfriend go on a trip through the Mexican underworld to collect a bounty on the head of a dead gigolo.  I love 70s road movies and this one ranks high up there high.  They do not make them like Warren Oates anymore.  Hollywood only wants good looking people in their movies now, acting be damned.  This title has also been out of print for a while too.

Thundar the Barbarian- Thundarr the Barbarian and his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel wander a devastated future Earth and fight evil wherever they find it.  This was a great show when I was a kid.  Just think Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian and there is your characters and setting.  Too bad there was only 21 episodes of this series, I really liked this one a lot.

Day of the Beast- Bent on committing as many sins as possible to avert the birth of the beast, a Catholic priest teams up with a Black Metal aficionado and an Italian connoisseur of the occult. Now, he must become an unrelenting sinner. Is there still hope?  I have been hearing about one this lately and I thought it was a new movie but no it’s a 1995 Italian horror movie.

Wonder Women 1984- Diana must contend with a work colleague and businessman, whose desire for extreme wealth sends the world down a path of destruction, after an ancient artifact that grants wishes goes missing.  I thought this was gonna be the movie that got audiences back to the theater but when Warner’s decided to put it on HBO Max at the same time everyone including myself decided to stay home and watch this and I am glad that is the decision I made because this movie is a stinker.  The first Wonder Woman was awesome and we have all the same players coming back for this one and due to the pandemic they had extra time to edit and really slow cook this to be its best but they failed miserably.  You can skip this, go watch the Justice League Snyder cut instead.

News of the World- A Civil War veteran agrees to deliver a girl, taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home.  I am so thankful Tom Hanks is in this or it probably would have not go made.  We do not get many Westerns anymore so I am very glad to see a new one come out.

Money Plane- A professional thief with $40 million in debt and his family's life on the line must commit one final heist - rob a futuristic airborne casino filled with the world's most dangerous criminals.  I have seen several sites that call this the worst movie ever so I threw this in just for fun because apparently tough guys have man buns now.  This did make the Wal Mart shelf so it will make a little money just on that alone.
