Pancake Saturday

On Saturdays I usually serve up pancakes for breakfast and then reflect on what happened that week.  Think of it like my scatter shooting of the week.  Here is what I have in the barrel this week:

*I am not sure why everyone is shocked over Nolan Ryan's retirement/ resignation, depending who in the Ranger hierarchy you ask.  The guy was not happy about his role change that happened last November, let everyone know about that dislike in March and then went silent until a press conference before this last season started.  He and general manager Jon Daniels showed they had a relationship that was working on the outside but apparently that was not the case on the inside.  The business side of the team were split into two halves (Nolan's people, Daniel's people) and turns out that division has been hurting the team.  I love Nolan Ryan and I hate to say this but it was time for him to go.  He was not happy and Daniels was the one that has created all the success this team has had the last few years.  The team won 91 games this past season and just missed the post season.  I will take that season any day.  I have been a Ranger fan since 1987 and I remember when 81-81 was considered a good season around here.  Now Daniels is responsible for  not replacing any of the offense lost this past off season (Hamilton, Napoli, and Young) and hopefully he will go get some bats this off season.  I will miss you Nolan.

*Cooler weather, football, pumpkin beer, candy corn, and horror movies are what makes Octobers awesome!

*Went to the Texas State Fair last week.  Still a great time with a new Big Tex and corn dogs.

*One thing in football that really bugs me now in College or pro is why do all receivers look for a penalty flag on every play where the ball is thrown to them?  You cannot catch them all and the defensive backs have a right to the ball too.

*Why is renaming the Washington Redskins an issue?  There were established in 1932 and Native American rights groups have gone on record saying that they have bigger and better issues to take care of or worry about than the name of a professional football team owned by a billionaire.  Bob Costas: After your gun rant last season and now your Redskin rant this past Sunday you have proved one thing,  You are an idiot.

*Have a good weekend.
